My Saturday Night game took me from Bradford, Ohio to Bellevue Kentucky for my first visit to Gilligan Stadium home of the Bellevue Tigers, to watch their matchup with Lynn Camp. The Tigers came in with a record of 1-2, with their win coming over Riverview East Academy out of Cincinnati, Ohio. For the Wildcats they came in on a two-game win streak standing 2-1. Their two wins came against Berea and Knott County Central both Kentucky schools. Both teams only dress a little over twenty players, so I was expecting a lot of runs and tight formations, which was just what the fans were given.
Jordan Pendleton raced 53 yards for the first score of the game to put Bellevue up 6-0 with 9:02 left in the opening quarter. Later in the quarter, the Bellevue defense got a fumble recovery when Ben Trimnell pounced on the ball that DJ Wren had coughed up.
With 10:03 left on the 2nd quarter clock Brayden Sizemore hauled in a pass and took a hit putting the ball on the ground where Peyton Wilson fell on it for Lynn Camp. The quarter quickly worked itself to the 2:25 mark where Tristan Woodyard threw a little pass to Peyton Hopper, who took it 6- yards for the touchdown. Woodyard ran in the point after try to make this a 14-0 game. At the 1:36 mark, Aiden Dickerson took a pick back 54 yards followed by a Woodyard to Zizemore two-point conversion pass would make this a 22-0 score.
Bellevue would take the 28-0 lead when Pendleton used a Barry Sanders-type spin move to go 39 yards for the score at the 10:55 mark of the third quarter. Lynn Camp used a 9-yard run by Peyton Wilson to put the ball on the Tigers 1-yard line. From there Darren Campbell plowed in for the score to make this a 28-6 game.
Wilson would get the ball back for Lynn Camp when he made a nice pick of a Woodyard pass with 9:20 left in the game. Facing a third and ten on the ensuing drive DJ Wren ran for a 33-yard gain to move the chains. Warren would find Ethan Phipps for a 27-yard score to make this a 28-12 game with 6:28 left.
Woodyard ended a 6-play, 52-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run making this a 34-12 game. Lynn Camp would close out the scoring on a Wren found Jason Lowe for a 27-yard score followed by a two-point conversion pass from Wren to Ethan Burd making the score 34-20.
