On Friday night I made my way to Harley Field for the fourth time this season to watch the East Tigers host the Cambridge Bobcats in the second round of the Ohio high school athletic association playoffs. Last week East not only made history by not only hosting their first-ever home playoff game they won it enabling them to host again this week. The Bobcats came in off of their win over a gritting Logan Elm team and as you know, if you read my article last week East defeated a strong Vinton County team.

On the first play from scrimmage, Caden Moore threw a nice long pass that was picked off by the very talented Tre Lindsay. The big homeside crowd erupted as Lindsay made a nice little return. On the ensuing drive facing a third and seven, Lindsay would find Solomon (Quiet Storm) Vaughn for a gain of seventeen. The drive came to a close when the same combo came together again, this time for a 33-yard touchdown to make this a 6-0 game, with 8:03 showing on the first quarter clock.

The Tigers defense made the next big play when Kemua Woods-Law got to Moore for a big 12-yard loss. The Bobcats defense got into the big play action when Tony Mascolino got to Vaughn for a loss of 10-yards. The Tigers would overcome their negative play by getting an 18-yard run from Lindsay on a third and eighteen situation, with 6;14 left in the quarter. After Taizuan Burns flashed some of his big play ability with a 22-yard run the Bobcats defense was able to slow down the Tigers offense with Mascolino sacking Lindsay. The Tigers would get on the scoreboard again when Lindsay eased in from 8-yards out, after Burns ran in the two-point conversion the hometeam led 14-0, with 1:03 left on the clock. The drive lasted for 15 plays totaling 66-yards.

The Bobcats used a 53-yard pass to Davion Bahr to set up their first score which came on a 1-yard run by Moore. Lucas Parsons nailed the point after kick making this a 14-7 game, with eight seconds left in the quarter. Before the scoring drive, Cambridge had been held to minus 12-yards.

CJ Swanson, the 6-4, 246-pound force for the Tigers made a nice catch on a Lindsay pass, after the catch, he manhandled three would-be tackler to pick up 20-yards just eleven seconds into the second quarter. Devin Ogle would crush the Tigers drive when he picked off a Lindsay pass with 9:00 left in the half. Moore would find Trey Stottsberry for a 20-yard gain. From there Moore hit Ogle for 30-yards. Closing out the scoring drive on an 11-yard run was Stottsberry to make this a 14-13, with 6:41 left in the half.

There would be no more scoring in the half as both teams got some nice work from the defensive side of the ball. The last big play in the half came when Daequan Lindsay sacked Moore for a 5-yard loss. The two teams combined for 332 yards in the first half, 11 pass completion, with each defense getting a pick.

Coach Bell went to his bag of tricks early in the third quarter when he call his version of the halfback pass Burns would take the handoff and then throw a dime to Vaughn for the 25-yard pick up. The promising drive ended when Lindsay fumble and the refs signal Bobcat football. The Bobcats offense would turn the ball over on the very next play when the Tigers picked off a Moore pass. Lindsay connected with Burns for 55-yards at the 8:07 mark. The quarter produced one more turnover with Reed Johnson getting a pick.

Burns would show he too can be a force on the defensive side of the ball when he picked of a Moore pass then used his speed and field vision to take it to the house giving East the 20-13 game, with 10:37 left in the game. The Bobcats would respond with a Moore to Xander Caldwell touchdown pass followed by the point after kick from Parsons locked this one up at twenty, with 4:37 left.

The Tigers would need just play to retake the lead with Lindsay finding Taizuan (Mr. Excitement) for the 65-yard touchdown making this a 26-20 game with 4:28 left. The big East crowd was going nuts at this time while the big Bobcats crwod looked shocked on the field the Bobcats never seemed to fazed by what had just happened as they prepared to try and tie things up.

On the ensuing drive the Bobcats used a Moore to Reed Johnson pass to convert a fourth and eleven picking up 13-yards. Moore scrambled around to keep the play alive before throwing the ball. At the 1:30 mark Caldwell hauled in a pass to pick up another first down when he picked up 20-yards on third and fifteen. Stottsberry ended the exciting drive when he went 13 yards to tie things up, with 57.4 seconds left. Parsons potential game winning point after kick missed keeping the score 26-26 and we were going to need overtime to decide the winner.

East would score on a 1 yard Burns run but the two point pass was picked off by Johnson leaving this a 32-26 game. East needed eight plays to get into the endzone as the Bobcats defense made them work very hard to get into the end zone.

The Bobcats need two plays to score their touchdown with Stottsberry scoring on a 10-yard run. Parsons point after kick was low and maybe tipped falling short to keep the game locked at 32 and headed to the second overtime.

The Bobcats again needed just two plays to get into the endzone with Moore going 23-yards for the go ahead score. Parsons came pit and booted the ball through to give the Bobcats the 39-32 lead.

East would need four plays to get into the end zone with Lindsay easing in from a yard out. Lindsay quietly connect on 12-12 passes in the 2nd half including the two over times sessions. East as they have everytime I have watched them this season lined up to go for two and in this cse the win. Lindsay out of the shotgun received the snap and calmly stood in the pocket for what seemed like minutes, as his offensive line did as they needed to do allowing their quarterback plenty of time tothrow the ball and when he did he looked to his right and found Burns for the 40-29 win.
