The Duquesne Dukes improved their record to 4-3 with a 52-7 win over St. Francis Red Flashes on their homecoming and family weekend.

The game, which took place at Rooney Field on Oct 11, started off strong for the Dukes with a kickoff return touchdown by Joel Kpassou on the first play of the game. The extra point was good, and the Dukes took a 7-0 lead with 14:48 left in the first quarter.

Duquesne would keep its energy strong with a touchdown thrown by Tyler Riddell and caught by Joey Isabella less than four minutes later.

The Duke offense continued proving their strength with another touchdown pass thrown from Riddell, this time caught by freshman Ryan Petras with 6:16 left in the first quarter. The extra point was good, and Duquesne was now leading 21-0.

Four minutes later, Duke QB Riddell threw for his third touchdown of the quarter, this time it was caught by Jermaine Johnson. Matt Clark secured the extra point, and the Duke’s lead was extended to 28-0.

St. Francis’ defense started to find their rhythm, stopping Duquesne from scoring anymore until eight minutes left in the second quarter when the Dukes’ Matt Marcinko scored a field goal.

Despite the Red Flashes’ best efforts, the Dukes were proving to be too much to handle. This was shown by an interpretation by Duquesne’s TJ Jones with seven minutes left in the second quarter.

That set up Duquesne’s Riddell to throw a touchdown to Marvin Alexander Jr. Duquesne was now in full command of the game with a 38-0 lead.

Despite the lead, the Dukes were not done finding the endzone for the first half as their defense forced a fumble, which was recovered by Tyson Meiguez, who ran it in for a touchdown. The extra point was made by Marcinko, and Duquesne ended the first half with a lead of 45-0.

A strong defense by St. Francis slowed down Duquesne in the second half, but they were not able to stop them completely as Duquesne’s Alex Gochis would find the endzone after a pass from Riddell with 3:37 left in the third quarter. The extra point was good, and Duquesne’s lead was now 52-0.

St. Francis would finally find the endzone for the first and only time of the game with a pass thrown by Jeff Hoenstine and caught by Payton Wehner with 11 minutes left in the final quarter. The extra point was good, but it was not enough to rally a comeback, and Duquesne won with a final score of 52-7.

Duquesne will play Mercyhurst next week, while St. Francis will play next in two weeks against Robert Morris.
