My late game took me from Dayton to Cincinnati where it was the battle of Montessori schools Clark and Gamble.

Before the game, I was able to have a nice conversation with three of the refs. I l also met with Gamble athletic director Dave Miller, with whom I had a nice conversation after the game. To complete my pre and post-game activities I went down to the field and met with Gamble head coach Robert Rachel who I have known through covering games for a few years. I ask the coach how he felt about the rival game and he basically said that his team was ready and with the tough schedule they had played he felt this would be ready not only for this game but for all of the games that remained on their schedule. Entering play Clark came in 2-1, while Gamble came in 1-2.

Chop Chop is the saying that goes with the Gators team and that is exactly what the defense did with 11:44 showing on the first quarter clock when Mikyll McCloud made a nice play from his defensive back position by picking off Marquize Lewis. Starting just twenty-nine yards from paydirt the Gamble offense would need four plays to get there. Deon Coulter would do the honors with a five-yard run after Dvonte Nelson was true on his point after kick we had a 7-0 game.

The Gators would make this a 4-0 game at the 5:44 mark of the quarter ending a two-play, thirty-three-yard drive with a thirty-yard pass from Brent Thompson to Ta’Ron Patterson. Things would go from bad to worse for the Cougars on the ensuing kickoff when Robert Mabry pounced on the onside kick putting the Gators offense right back on the field. Uncle Mo can be as finicky as a cat on a bad day and this would show just ten seconds after Gamble recovered the kick with Coulter fumbling the ball and Daven Gibson of the Cougars jumped on the ball.

Desmond Davis would do his best to put Uncle Mo back on the Gators side when he got to Oliver Jahkiren for a six-yard loss with 4:39 left on the clock. Marquize would find Ethan Nipper for a nice twelve-yard gain to get things started. The drive ended with Marquize being picked off by Jaycee Houston. The Gamble defense seemed to be in the right place all game long as I will venture to guess film study went well leading up to the game.

The clock read 8:37 in the second quarter when the Gators made this a 20-0 game on an eight-yard touchdown run by Thompson. The drive totaled forty-eight yards taking eight plays. The Cougars would show some life when  Oliver Jahkiren picked up sixteen yards on a run that took six guys to get him down. Ricky Trimble would knock a pass away from James De’Lorean saving a nice gain for the Cougars. After the Gators got the ball back they needed only three plays to go the sixty-seven yards for their next score and that would come on a sixty-six-yard pass from Thompson to Trimble to make this a 26-0 game, with 1:32 left in the half.

With 0:13 seconds left in the half, Amir Colvin Brown picked off a Marquize pass plenty of time for the Gators to try and score again. Thompson and Trimble would hook up again for the twenty-five-yard score then Thompson pranced in for the two-point conversion to give us a 34-0 halftime score.

Gamble got things started with a twenty-seven-yard run from Coulter then on the drives tenth play Thompson went up the gut of the depleted Cougars defense for a twenty-eight-yard score to make this a 40-0 game, with 3:58 left in the clock running third quarter. Thompson and Chayse Mack combine to get Marquize for a four-yard loss for the last big play of the quarter.

The Fourth quarter belonged to the Cougars with Jahkiren getting thirty-nine yards on two runs, with the last one being a twenty-yard touchdown followed by the two-point conversion run by Marquize to make this a 40-8 game. Oliver Dieardorff recovered a Gators fumble to help set up a forty-one-yard touchdown yard touchdown by De’Lorean to make the final score 40-14.
