On Thursday night, the Garfield G-Men showed resiliency in overcoming some miscues and defensive troubles to win comfortably, 36-14.
Brandyn Bogucki opened the scoring with the lone touchdown of the first quarter, from 13 yards out down the left sideline. Giving the G-Men a 7-0 lead. In the second quarter, LaMarcus Provitt scored the first of his two touchdowns on the day for JFK. The first from 7 yards out when he countered on a swarming G-Men defense and ran to the open flat. Tying the game at seven. Garfield answers the call, on a 42 yard touchdown pass, caught by William Simon.
In the second half, Garfield extends their lead on the back of Ryder Cain. First from 69 yards out shortly into the second half of the game. Early in the fourth quarter, Cain added his second score and gave the homestanding G-Men some breathing room on a 4-yard score, and a 29-7 lead.
LaMarcus Provitt finds the endzone one more, and final, time on the night with a short plunge to make things interesting. A two score deficit with 5:08 remaining, trailing 29-14.
However, Cain gets his trifecta on a 49 yard run up the left side and across the middle to paydirt. A 36-14 lead and all the momentum now, as JFK’s thorough and steady drive to score just the second touchdown of the game was bested in an instant.
Garfield gets their first victory of the season and evens their record at 1-1. While Warren JFK falls to 0-2.
