Before getting into the game I wanted to take the time to thank the guys in the press box for the pizza, cookies, and cokes, and most of all for the stats. Saturday afternoon I made my third drive ever to Vincent, Ohio to watch the Warren Warriors battle John Marshall Monarchs from Glen Dale, West Virginia. This was the fourth matchup in this series where John Marshall has won all of the games.

The Monarchs got things started with a 35-yard gut run from Maverick LeMasters. The Warriors defense would get two nice plays from Owen Bookman. He would get to LeMasters twice causing a loss of four yards. At the 6:24 mark of the opening quarter, Eric Carr picked off Kayden Knapp’s pass to give the Warriors the ball. Victor McElwee would sack Warriors quarterback Jacob Sealey for a loss of nine. Sealey shrugged off the sack and threw a strike to Landon Fairbanks for a big 49-yard gain. The eight-play, eighty-four-yard drive closed out on a one-yard plunge from Sealey. Wearing number eighty-eight Devyan Wilson made this a 7-0 game with the point after kick with 2:53 left in the quarter.

A halfback pass by Dimario White to Hayden Gaiser went for thirty-nine yards to help set up an eight-yard touchdown run by Mason Hagedom followed by the point-after kick by Conor Fitzpatrick locking things up at seven. Fitzpatrick had seven kickoffs go into the endzone as he showcased all day long how strong his leg was.

Things looked to be going well for the Warriors when Nick Cressey hauled in a thirty-two-yard pass from Sealey. But an interception of a Sealey pass by Cain Martin, who leaped high in the air to get the pick ended the Warriors once once-promising looking drive. The Warriors defense would make quick work of the Monarchs offense to get the ball back to their offense. A nice catch by Landyn Summers picked up twenty-four yards. One minute after the catch this would become a 14-7 Warriors lead when Saley sprinted in from six yards out.

With 4:24 left in the half, White got John Marshall headed in the right direction with his twenty seven yard run. Summers put a temporary pause on the drive when he got to LeMasters for a short loss. A screenplay for LaMasters resulted in a twenty-three-yard touchdown locking this one up with 2:43 left in the half.

A fumbled snap resulted in a five-yard loss for the Warriors when Sealy was tapped by Mason Markonich, with 11:22 left in the third. Eugene PAHL III got to Kayden Knapp before Knapp could gain a yard and forced the Monarchs to settle for a forty-six-yard field goal from Fitzpatrick making this a 17-14 game with 8:03 left on the clock.

Sealy would gain twelve yards on his fourth run on the ensuing drive. Eric Carr would break multiple tackles on his way to a thirteen-yard run to give the Warriors another first down. Carr would fight for extra yards on his next carry where he put the ball on the turf and Henry pounced on it for John Marshall.

Knapp coughed up the ball but quickly recovered it but suffered a six-yard loss when Owen Thompson nailed him. Getting the ball back a short time later the Warriors used a twenty-one-yard catch from Aden Strahier to a twenty-yard touchdown catch by Summers to make this a 20-17 game with 1:08 left on the clock.

White would be taken down by Cressey for a loss of eight from there the drive ended a short time later with the game heading into the final frame. Strahler made a nice catch but coughed the ball up and the refs signaled John Marshall’s ball with 11;11 left in the game. John Marshall would go on a six-minute plus drive using fifteen ground-and-pound running plays to go up 24-20 with Knapp scoring from a yard out.

The final score in the game came on a short touchdown run from LeMasters to make this a 31-20 game. The final big play also came from John Marshall with an interception by White.
