Kiski Prep warms up while waiting for a delayed Youthbuild Charter bus

With their game last Saturday vs Reigning Sports Academy washed out by storms, and an open date this weekend, Kiski Area reached out to Youthbuild Charter to avoid two weekends off. It almost seemed like this game wasn’t going to happen either as the Centurians bus broke down. This game was not to be cancelled, just delayed until 8:15. Turns out the game was worth the wait. In a hard hitting, well played game the Centurians held off Kiski’s late fourth quarter charge and escaped with a 22-14 win.

Scoring in this game was also on delay as neither team reached the endzone until Cougar running back Princeton Douglass found the goal line on a 12 yard run with 10:54 to go in the second quarter. Then with 5:03 left in the half and the ball at the Kiski 30, the Centurians turned on the gas going with a no huddle offense. It took just 65 seconds for them to find the endzone. A two point conversion made it 8-7.

The turning point in the game came with Youthbuild getting a beautiful 24 yard td grab to go up 14-7 at the half with the defender out-maneuvering DB Kyle Silk :

The second half went pretty much the same was as the first as neither team was able to find any points. Kiski tried a little bit if trickery in the third with Silk attempting a fake punt, but the pass to his receiver just missed the mark.

The frustration for each team began to show up on the field as the officiating staff had to have a conference with both teams captains about trash talk and personal fouls. Kiski finally connected on a long pass to the Youthbuild 15 but on the next play they fumbled the ball away and the Centurian defender ran it back 85 yards, giving Youthbuild a comfy 22-7 lead with 2:33 left in the game. Ryne Wallace found Chris Moncrief on a 30 yard td play with 56 seconds left pulling Kiski within a score, but Youthbuild recovered the onside kick to seal the win.

Tough loss but recent transfer Kyle Silk found a way to smile for us after the game.  Just happy to play the game he loves I guess.
