PITTSBURGH, PA — The Miami Hurricanes closed out their regular season with a decisive 38–7 win over the Pitt Panthers at Acrisure Stadium, dominating on both sides of the ball from start to finish.
First Half: Miami Controls Early Momentum
Miami opened the scoring in the first quarter with a 29-yard field goal from kicker #38 Carter Davis. Pittsburgh answered in the second quarter when quarterback #6 Mason Heintschel connected with tight end #88 Justin Holmes on a 6-yard touchdown pass. The extra point by #93 Trey Butkowski gave the Panthers a brief 7–3 lead.
Miami responded immediately. Playmaker #10 Malachi Toney delivered a 9-yard touchdown pass to Elija Lofton, and Davis converted the extra point to put the Hurricanes ahead 10–7. Before halftime, quarterback #11 Carson Beck found Toney for a 22-yard touchdown, pushing Miami’s lead to 17–7 going into the second half.
Second Half: Hurricanes Take Over
The Hurricanes continued to separate early in the third quarter. Running back #4 Mark Fletcher Jr. finished off a steady drive with a 4-yard rushing touchdown, extending the lead to 24–7 after another Davis extra point.
Beck later connected with #6 CharMar Brown on a 9-yard touchdown pass, making it 31–7. Miami closed the game with a 33-yard touchdown strike from Beck to #7 CJ Daniels in the final minutes. This time #45 Bert Auburn handled the extra point, completing the 38-7 victory.
A Complete Team Performance
Miami outgained Pittsburgh by a wide margin, surpassing 400 total yards while holding the Panthers to minimal offensive production. The Hurricanes’ defense limited Pitt to fewer than 250 yards and only 30 rushing yards, consistently applying pressure and closing down running lanes.
Beck delivered an efficient performance with multiple touchdown passes, while Toney continued his breakout season by contributing as both a receiver and a passer. Miami’s balanced attack and defensive consistency set the tone for the entire contest.
Final Outlook
The Hurricanes’ dominant road win strengthens their postseason bucket list and caps the regular season with momentum. Pittsburgh struggled to generate offense after its lone touchdown and was unable to recover against a Miami team executing at a high level throughout the game.
