Out in Eastern Montana, one of the rare larger school plays 11-man football. Surrounded by small town splaying six-man and eight-man football, the Sidney Eagles stand apart. An oasis just miles from the North Dakota state line, the Eagles are the pride of Sidney.
On Friday night, they hosted Lockwood from Billings’ east side suburbs. The Lions were 2-4 coming into the game, while Sidney stood at 5-1. The game opened with two quick scores. One on the opening kickoff, and the second after the ensuing kickoff hit an upback and was recovered by the Eagles. After three straight scores for the Lions, the Sidney Eagles converted a 4th and 17 with a leaping catch by Brody Keysor. Gradin Sukut powered his way in for six to take the lead, 20-18. And added the game clinching interception while patrolling the secondary on defense on the game’s penultimate drive.
