Around western Nebraska, 11-man football is few and far between. With so many small towns, 8-man and the growing 6-man game are becoming much more common. But in some places 11-man high school football is still the way of life.

An oasis along the Lincoln Highway, where Nebraska rests its chin on Colorado, sits Sidney. One such small town among the endless grasslands notable in the upper Plains.

Sidney’s most notable, and national, claim to fame was being the home headquarters of Cabela’s. Today, though, the town is still a bustling and thriving outpost along Interstate 80. A large Cabela’s sits prominently located just off the highway to travelers passing by. But the town of Sidney is more than what sits by the highway.

There’s a pride here, in Sidney. And it shows in the school, and its teams. Pregame, a tailgate was setup in the parking lot. At halftime, 100 little aspiring cheerleaders lined the field, supporting the school and town with cheers. A video board, trucked in on the back of a tractor-trailer, emblazoned with “Welcome to Weymouth”, an ambitious, yet fitting example of community pride. Sidney doesn’t just sit around and wish something happens.

And neither does its football team.

Here’s a scoring recap, followed by a photo gallery.
