Section 6 Class AA 1st Round Preview
Lockport Lions #7 (1-7) at Lancaster Legends #2 (6-2)
This matchup should be rather one sided as the records and prior meeting suggest. Lancaster beat Lockport on September 14th by a score of 48-22. Lancaster dominated their way to 2nd in AA with powerful offensive performances week after week. The Legends Senior Quarterback Alex Krupa is primed to attack the Lions secondary with his breakout star receiver John Gang.
For Lockport to win: They will need a lot of help from the Legends with giveaways and bad play.
For Lancaster to win: They do what they have all year and let their offense go to work.
Take Lancaster
Hutch Tech Engineers #6 (1-7) at Orchard Park Quakers #3 (6-2)
This matchup is a rematch of the October 10th blowout win 50-24, for OP. Hutch tech didn’t finish last in AA this season, but they didn’t do much more than that this season with 7 losses by more than 24 points. Meanwhile, Orchard Park has been electric. The Quakers should roll with the very talented Ciano brothers leading the way.
For Hutch Tech to win: The Engineers will need to force turnovers to have any shot.
For Orchard Park to win: Let Brady Ciano cook.
Take the Quakers
Niagara Falls Wolverines #5 (4-4) at Jamestown Red and Green #4 (4-4)
Last Friday Jamestown took it to the Wolverines 40-14, this Friday the Red and Green will attempt to do so again. Niagara Falls had a nice season but are not at the top level of the AA class yet. Another factor for the Wolverines is the long 2-hour ride to Jamestown. The Red and Green will look to their defensive stars to set the tone as Cole Bloomquist and Chase Bonta both have over 100 tackles on the season. Bloomquist has 21 sacks in 8 games and will control the game with his play.
For Niagara Falls to Win: They will need to score early and get Jamestown’s defense off its game.
For Jamestown to Win: Run the football, play smash mouth football, let your defense dominate.
Take the Red and Green
Bennett Tigers #1 (7-1) – Bye
The Tigers earn the first-round bye with another year of very good football. The Tigers only loss to National opponent Saint John’s (DC). Take away that game and Bennett outscored opponents 264 to 63. The Tigers are led by Senior quarterback Jordan Freeman and his 1320 passing yard and 13 touchdowns, as well as Noah McDuffie, the senior who leads the team in rushing yards and tackles. Bennett was a state semifinalist last season and are primed for another run.
