Turf comes in a lot of different shades of green. And blue. And in Pennsylvania we’ve seen gray and black and beige. But in Kentucky in 2024 the Paris Greyhounds unveiled a truly groundbreaking turf field: one completely saturated with bright orange.

Now in their second season on the eye-popping field, the Greyhounds opened their home slate with a contest against Williamsburg on Hall of Fame Night at Blanton Collier Stadium.

And it started with a surge. Just 24 seconds in, Paris was up 2-0 on a bad snap between the Williamsburg long snapper and punter. Later, in the first half, Paris nets four touchdowns to go up 30-0. On the legs of RayZamadi Bell and with a pick-six by Brandon Santiago. In the second quarter, Santiago had a long run for six, while QB Guy Turner found the endzone on the ground from 20 yards out.

The third quarter opened with Williamsburg kicking off. And three straight onside kicks ensued. All three recovered by the Jackets, and turned into Peyton Hamilton touchdown catches, to trail 30-20. Trenton Collier adds one more in the fourth, to get the Hornets on the doorstep of one amazing comeback, down 30-26 with under 10 minutes left in the game. And then Brandon Santiago happened again. Catching a 14 yard pass to give Paris a much more comfortable 10-point lead. That wouldn’t stop the Jackets, as they get one more–his fourth of the night–from Peyton Hamilton. And several more chances that bared no fruit. Paris hangs on to win, 36-32.
