Protime Predictions Week 8, 2022

Tagged under: News, Protime Predictions

| October 13, 2022

When Protime first heard the words gym rat he thought, ‘I better find somewhere else to go.  I don’t want no rat nibbling on my feet whilst I’m in the middle of bench pressing 300 pounds.  I certainly don’t need to have some rodent hop into my gym bag unnoticed and stowaway to my house where he can wreak havoc and cause Mrs. P to have a coronary.’

Then someone explained to Protime that it was a slang term for someone who’s in the gym a lot, and that Protime was indeed a gym rat.  Now Protime proudly walks around sharing with any non-gym goer that he’s a gym rat.  Protime then started thinking more about it and thought, ‘I think I’m also a high school football rat.  I arrange my schedule around high school football.  I’m always on PFN or MaxPreps looking at stats or the top 25 teams for any given week.  Plus, I spend a lot of time studying teams and their stats and power ratings.’

The research pays off though because Protime usually does well with his predictions each week.  Speaking of which he went 21-7 last week and is now 131-49 (.728) for the year.  Some great games are on tap this week and the Wizard of Wisdom’s projections are as follows.

Penn Cambria 7-0 @ Richland 7-0 – Richland’s stadium should be packed for this one and not just because Protime will be there.  We have the #7 AAA team (Penn Cambria Panthers) tangling with the #6 AA squad (Richland Rams).  Both QBs have a 72% completion rate.  The Panther QB, Garrett Harrold, has 1,278 yards pitching the pigskin with 18 TDs.  Mr. Harrold also has 578 yards rushing with 8 more TDs.  WR Vinny Chirdon has 336 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns.  RB Zach Grove has sprinted for 737 yards and 11 scores.  He has also 4 TDs receiving.  Chirdon leads the Panther ‘D’ in tackles and the team has 16 QB sacks for the season.  Sam Penna calls the signals for the Rams and has rifled the rock for 1,154 yards and 13 scores.  RB Evan McCracken has 748 yards rushing with 10 TDs and 331 yards receiving with 5 more TDs.  WR Austin Yarnick has 326 yards receiving.  Richland’s tackling defense is led by Jordan Nichols.  The team has 25 sacks and 52 tackles for loss.  This game calls for a Protime coin flip.  Penn Cambria 42 Richland 35.

Exeter 7-0 @ Hempfield 6-1 – If anyone in District 3 is looking for a game Friday night, this should be your choice.  The Exeter Eagles fly into town ranked #2 by PFN in the class 5A rankings.  The Eagles have outscored their opposition by a whopping 301-64.  They are led by QB Mason Rotelli.  He has completed 77 % of his throws.  He has 875 yards passing and 14 TD tosses.  All-state wide receiver Joey Schlaffer has 449 yards receiving and 8 TDs.  RB Richie Karstien has scored 10 times.  He has raced for 689 yards.  The Exeter defense has 9 picks on the year and 18 sacks.  Lucas Palange is the team leader in tackles.  The Black Knights are led by their dual-threat QB Jackson Landis.  Landis has thrown for 1,044 yards and 6 TDs.  He has rushed for 9 TDs.  RB Grant Hoover has 696 yards of rushing offense.  Wide receivers Andy Garcia and Micah Gates have combined to haul down 45 passes for 619 yards.  Protime is going with the upset.  Hempfield 24 Exeter 22.

Gateway 6-1 @ McKeesport 7-0 – A top notch game is on tap in District 7 between the Gators of Gateway and the Tigers of McKeesport.  Quarterback Brad Birch is the straw that stirs the drink so to speak for the Gators.  He has 1,187 yards and 11 TD passes.  His top targets are Dallas Harper and Anez Jordan.  Harper has 25 catches for 382 yards and 6 scores, while Jordan has 5 TD receptions.  RB Jaquon Reynolds has chipped in 5 touchdowns via Gateway’s ground game.  The Tigers run the tough to defend flexbone offense that features a lot of running plays.  Bobbie Boyd is the guy with 695 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns.  QB Jahmir Perryman can throw, but prefers to run.  He has 536 yards on the ground and 9 TDs.  Gateway has been a tough nut to figure this year.  McKeesport not so much.  In fact, the Tigers defense have only given up 19 points all year.  They will give up that many in this one, but still win.  McKeesport 21 Gateway 19.

State College 7-0 @ Harrisburg 5-1 – Here’s a game that will definitely affect the rankings in 6A.  The #4 ranked Little Lions have not been tested too much this year, while the #6 ranked Cougars have been, more than once.  St. College is averaging over 40 points per game and Harrisburg only gives up an average of 9, so something has to give.  QB Finn Furmanek leads the coalition of Little Lions into Harrisburg.  He has 699 yards passing and has fired 8 touchdowns.  WR Donte Nastasi has 26 grabs for 364 yards and a trio of TDs.  Freshman running back D’Antae Sheffey has tallied 8 scores and 878 yards thus far on the ground.  Steven Scourtis leads the S.C. defense.  QB Shawn Lee is coming into his own as the Cougar signal caller.  He has 963 yards passing and 9 TDs.  WR Kyle Williams Jr. has 280 yards and 3 TD receptions.  RB Mahkai Hopkins is a load to bring down at 6’1” 240 lbs.  He has 548 yards and 8 scores.  Terrell Reynolds leads the ‘Burg’s defense with 9 sacks.  Harrisburg 13 St. College 10.

Emmaus 7-0 @ Nazareth 6-1 – This D-11 game should be worth more than the price of admission.  The Hornets come buzzing into Nazareth as the 5th ranked 6A team in the state.  The Blue Eagles are ranked 8th.  The Emmaus offense is led by QB Jake Fotta who has thrown for 1,115 yards and 15 TDs.  He has only been picked off once.  WR Dylan Darville has 27 snags for 513 yards and 8 touchdowns.  WR Chase Fotta has 5 TD snares.  RB Tylik Jarvis has crossed the goal line 6 times.  Aiden Garrett has 60 tackles for the Hornet defense.  The Blue Eagles have no slouch at QB themselves in Sonny Sasso.  Mr. Sasso has only thrown one pick too and has 1,492 yards and 16 TDs.  WR Nolan Lobb has 31 catches for 508 yards and 8 TDs.  The dangerous Mason Kuehner has 27 grabs for 533 yards and 5 scores.  Kuehner has 6 rushing TDs, a pick six, and a punt return for a TD too.  Protime’s coin flip has Nazareth winning 49-45.

Redbank Valley 7-0 @ Port Allegany 6-1 – This should be an interesting game as both teams have a plethora of offensive weapons.  It may come down to defense, but there’s not too much difference there either.  Redbank’s Cam Wagner is having quite a year at quarterback.  He has 1,724 yards and 28 TD tosses in completing 71% of his passes.  He has a trio of talented wide outs to throw to in Tate Minich, Aiden Ortz, and Ashton Kahle.  Minich has 36 grabs for 447 yards and 6 TDs.  Ortz’s numbers are 32-579-9 and Kahle’s are 21-397-9.  RB Drew Byers has 603 yards to keep the opposition from sitting on the pass.  The Bulldogs have 56 tackles for losses and 10 team INTs.  Caden Adams leads in tackles.  The Gators counter with QB Drew Evens who has thrown for over 650 yards and 6 TDs.  He has another 4 running the ball.  RB Blaine Moses has 669 yards and 13 goal line crossings.  Noah Archer has 5 rushing TDs and is the leading receiver with 33 catches for 361 yards.  Moses has 67 tackles to lead Port’s defense.  The team has 9 picks to their credit.  Redbank Valley 28 Port Allegany 21.

Mt. Carmel 7-0 @ Southern Columbia 5-2 – Mt. Carmel’s signal caller, Cole Spears had completed 80% of his passes and had 8 touchdowns, but he went down with an injury.  So, in stepped Matt Balichik who has thrown for 6 TD passes in the 3 games he has played.  RB Luke Blessing has 6 TDs running with the pigskin on a Red Tornadoes offense that has amassed over 1,900 yards rushing with 25 TDs.  The Mt. Carmel defense has 55 tackles for losses and 10 interceptions.  Maddox Reed has 63 tackles for the Tornadoes.  Speaking of having players hurt, the SoCol Tigers have their top tackler (Garrett Garcia) from a year ago and one of the speediest running backs in the state (Wes Barnes) is out of the lineup.  Braedon Wisloski has picked up some of the slack as he has raced for 862 yards and scored 11 times.  He has over 1,000 all-purpose yards.  The Tigers, as everyone knows, are a wing-T running team mostly and they have 1,870 yards on the ground with 25 TDs.  Dominic Fetterolf is the top Tiger tackler.  Mt. Carmel 34 Southern Columbia 27.

Eisenhower 7-0 @ Northwestern 5-2 – The Knights Have a tough one this week when they visit the Wildcats.  Benji Bauer has crisscrossed the football fields for 1,255 yards and 16 touchdowns, while QB Shawn Pascuzzi has thrown for 809 yards and a half dozen scores.  Pascuzzi has yet to throw an interception.  Bauer and Tucker Lindell lead the Eisanhower Knight defense.  QB Lloyd Fountain has 1,061 yards passing with 16 TDs.  WR Landon Wayne has caught passes for 379 yards and 6 TDs.  RB Ben Campbell has 695 yards rushing with 6 scores.  Logan Stagi leads in tackles for the Wildcats and Colton Sutter has 5 interceptions.  Protime’s crystal ball has Northwestern giving Eisenhower their first loss 30-28.

The Others:

Laurel 20 South Side 13 – The Spartans sheer the Rams and hand them their first defeat.

Northwestern Lehigh 35 Bangor 21 – It appears to Protime that the Tigers are 2 touchdowns better than the Slaters.
