Protime Predictions Week 2, 2021

This past Sunday in church Protime struggled to stay awake.  He remembered a few years ago when a gentleman pressed the snooze button and his head did a double dribble off the pew in front of him giving him a nice goose bump and a case of embarrassment that haunts him to this day.  Protime wanted no part of that so he fought the good fight and stayed awake.

Then Protime’s stomach started to make those funny noises it makes when it is hungry.  Protime kept a stoic face so people had to guess where the rumbling sounds were coming from.  Occasionally he even looked around pretending to try to pinpoint the culprit.  Then, after communion when things really got quiet, Protime couldn’t get the hand sanitizer to come out of that little bottle so he squeezed as hard as he could.  Suddenly the bottle made a loud sound that resembled a stinker being discharged.  Nobody appeared to notice but they did.  Protime had to chuckle to himself even though his ears turned fifty shades of red.

The next sound from Protime was his celebration when he got home from church and he found out he went 20-5 last week despite having some very tough games to discern.  There are more toughies this week.  In fact, Protime couldn’t make room for all of them.  Here is the forecast by the Fabulous Foreteller of Football.

Mount Lebanon 2-0 @ Peters Township 2-0 – Big game at the stadium in McMurray this Friday as QB Joey Daniels leads the Mt. Lebo Blue Devils into town.  Joey has 274 yards passing with 3 touchdowns.  RB Alex Tecza has scooted for 303 yards and 3 TDs.  The Indians’ quarterback, Sam Miller, has been slinging the pigskin the first 2 games to the tune of 312 yards and a couple of scores.  His favorite target is Bryce Thompson.  Protime flipped a coin in this one and the Blue Devils of Mount Lebo slip past the Indians of Peters Twp 24-21.

Imhotep 2-0 @ LaSalle 2-0 – Defense is the name of the game for both teams this year.  Each team has played some excellent opponents and given up a total of 23 points (16 by Tep and 7 by LaSalle).  RB Rahmir Stewart is leading the Tep Panther offense while Sam Brown and Stevie Davis have rushed for some tough yards for LaSalle’s Explorers.  Imhotep’s Enai White is just one of the players LaSalle has to deal with when they have the ball.  Protime gazed into the crystal ball for the winner in this defensive struggle.  Imhotep 12 LaSalle 7.

State College 1-1 @ Hollidaysburg 1-1 – Little Lion QB, Finn Furmanek has 257 passing yards and 2 scoring tosses.  He also doubles as a wide receiver and has snagged 5 passes for over 100 yards.  That is interesting and brings up the question can you throw a pass to yourself?  Golden Tiger QB Jake McGinnis has 289 yards passing and 3 TDs, but no receptions to date.  State College wins 20-7.

Wallenpaupack 2-0 @ Scranton Prep 2-0 – Shadrak Agyei leads the Buckhorns of Wallenpaupack in TDs with 6 and rushing yardage with 260.  Mabret Levant has thrown for 4 touchdowns for the Buckhorns.  And kicker, Roman Levant, has been perfect this year going 12 for 12 in the PAT department and 3 for 3 in FGs.  For the Cavaliers of Scranton Prep it has been RB Landon Montgomery carrying the mail as he has chalked up 517 yards and 10 touchdowns to date.  Scranton Prep 27 Wallenpaupack 17.

Union 2-0 @ Neshannock 2-0 – The Union Scotties are having a good year so far with Tyler Staub barking the signals and throwing for over 150 yards and 2 scores last week.  His sidekick, Braylon Thomas has scored 4 times in two weeks.  For the Neshannock Lancers, its RB Camron Owens with over 200 yards rushing and 3 TDs to date.  QB Kurt Sommerfeld has been very efficient.  Protime has it Neshannock 28 Union 14.

Cedar Cliff 2-0 @ Central Dauphin East 1-1 – A District 3 dandy when the Colts gallop into Harrisburg’s Landis Field to face the CDE Panthers.  For the Colts, RB Jontae Morris brings some balance with his 240 yards rushing to date.  QB Ethan Dorrell has completed 33 of 43 passes for 500 yards and 6 TDs in just 2 games.  WR Trenton Smith has caught 16 balls for 303 yards and 3 scores.  Penn State recruit Mekhi Flowers is a big name for the Panthers and is making a big impact.  But so is Terrence Jackson-Copney, QB Tony Powell, and Tymere Thornton.  Protime has a winner and it is……….CD East 25-17.

Warren 2-0 @ Erie Cathedral Prep 2-0 – The Warren Dragons may feel a little like David trying to slay Goliath in this matchup.  QB Eric Dippold has aired the agate out for 308 yards and 5 TDs.  Ben White has captured 3 of those scoring strikes.  RB Tommy Nyquist has 205 yards and a pair of TDs.  The Ramblers of Cathedral Prep are led by Michael Parks III and his 4 rushing TDs.  QB Carter Barnes has 241 yards a 3 TDs to his credit.  Protime is staying with the favorite.  Cathedral Prep 41 Warren 22.

Penn Trafford 2-0 @ Belle Vernon 2-0 – Carter Green heads up the P-T Warrior delegation.  He has 195 yards running and 3 touchdowns.  He also averages 100 yards a game passing.  RB Cade Yacamelli has 315 yards and 4 TDs racked up so far.  Leopard QB Devin Whitlock has accounted for 261 total yards and 5 touchdowns.  Tyler Kovatch is 7 of 7 kicking extra points for Belle Vernon.  Penn-Trafford takes a nail-biter 21-20.

Emmaus 2-0 @ Allentown Central Catholic 2-0 – The Hornets swarm into J. Birney Crum Stadium on a mission.  Tylik Jarvis, Emmaus RB extraordinaire, has rushed for 260 yards and 4 TDs plus another score on a punt return.  The Vikings’ workhorse is Travis Foster.  Nasir McClean had 3 interceptions last week for ACC who has a stingy defense.  But Emmaus has a strong defense too which will enable them to win the game 20-14.

Pottstown 0-2 @ Octorara 2-0 – Protime will be making the trek to Atglen to watch the Trojans and Braves have at it.  Pottstown players to keep an eye on are Chris Thomas, Gabe Hicks, Malachi Neely, and receiver extraordinaire 6’5” Nyles Bunn-McNeil.  For the Octorara Braves, RB Mike Trainor has scored 3 touchdowns.  Two other guys to note are QB Weston Stoltzfus and Mason Ellingsworth.  This actually should be a decent game with the Braves bringing home the victory 27-23.

The Others:

Richland 31 Bishop Guilfoyle 21 – The Rams dodge an upset as the Marauders are not happy after getting beat last week.

Parkland 21 Nazareth 17 – Great game in D-11 sees the Trojans barely escaping the Blue Eagles’ sharp talons.

Governor Mifflin 35 Cocalico 14 – Speaking of running, the Mustangs are loose and have their way with the Eagles.

Redbank Valley 22 Elk County Catholic 12 – The Bulldogs knock the Crusaders from the ranks of the unbeaten.

Downingtown East 24 Delaware Valley 7 – Protime is predicting that the Cougars will be a contender in D-1 this year.  Meanwhile, the Warriors continue to gain experience in running a gauntlet to begin the season.

Thomas Jefferson 28 South Fayette 14 – TJ fresh off a big win over Gateway has to be weary of the hungry Lions.  But the Jags will prevail.

Upper Dublin 17 Bensalem 13 – In a battle of the birds, the Owls fall prey to the Cardinals.

Bellwood-Antis 30 Northern Bedford 20 – The Blue Devils tame the Black Panthers.

Blue Mountain 28 Bangor 24 – THIS GAME WAS CANCELLED.  Had they played, the Eagles would have flown by the Slaters giving them their first loss.  (A Slater is a person who worked the slate quarries of Northampton County)

Bedford 35 Chestnut Ridge 28 – The ‘Ridge Lions takes the Bisons to task before falling to Mercury Swaim and company.

Kennett 21 Oxford 8 – Two teams not always on Protime’s radar but both are undefeated.  The crystal ball says to take the Blue Demons over the Hornets.

Karns City 26 Central Clarion 13 – Anything can happen when Gremlins meet Wildcats.  This year take the KC Gremlins.

Southern Columbia 34 Loyalsock 14 – The Tigers continue their an amazing winning streak at the expense of a good Lancer team, but the road ahead appears to be bumpy for SCA.

Hampton 21 Shaler 14 – The Talbots top the Titans.  (A Talbot is an English hunting dog)

Central Dauphin 30 Manheim Township 27 – In what could be one of the better games in the state this week the Rams sneak by the Blue Streaks.

Central Valley 32 Aliquippa 24 – Last year’s 3A state champs are for real again this year as the Warriors scalp the Quips.

Jersey Shore 24 Montoursville 17 – A good one in District 4 finds the Bulldogs a getting a leg up on the Warriors.

West Shamokin 7 Purchase Line 6 – Now here is a good old-fashioned football game with emphasis on defense.  The Wolves take down the Dragons by one point.

Wilson West Lawn 28 Exeter Township 24 – Another great game this week has the Bulldogs keeping the Eagles grounded.
