Protime Predictions week 10 2021

| November 5, 2021

The other day Protime’s trusty ole jalopy died in the middle of a busy intersection.  The truck driver behind him couldn’t make the turn because Protime was blocking the way.  After honking at Protime the truck driver got out and started walking briskly toward Protime.  The guy reminded Protime of bad, bad Leroy Brown.  As Protime meekly rolled down his window, the truck driver suddenly smiled and said, “Protime didn’t know it was you.  Read your predictions all the time.  Do you need a push into that parking lot across the street?”  “I sure do,” replied a relieved Protime.

Protime’s jalopy, a 2010 Malibu, was eventually fixed and is back on the road.  So, if you see him putsying on down the highway around 56 miles per hour or if you see him slowly cruising your town looking for the local high school football field, toot your horn politely and wave.  He’ll appreciate it.  And hopefully he won’t need another push for a while.

Speaking of pushes, it is time for the annual playoff push by all those teams who made the playoffs.  Protime wants to congratulate each and every team.  If Protime was a coach, he’d have his team watch ‘Remember the Titans’ or ‘Facing the Giants’ the night before the big game.  Protime was 25-4 last week and is now 226-52 (.813) for the year.  Without any further ado here are the week one playoff picks by the Dynamic Discerner.

Upper Dauphin 8-1 @ Columbia 8-1 – The U.D. Trojans are a run first team.  Running backs Brady Morgan and Christian Snyder have rushed for 688 yards (10 TDs) and 683 yards (9 TDs) respectively.  Quarterback Wil Laskowski has 9 TDs rushing and 7 TDs passing.  The defense is a good one with Lex Williams leading in tackles, Freddie Retter leading in sacks (13), and John Eatherton leading in picks (5).  By contrast the Columbia Crimson Tide is a pass first team with an all-state candidate at quarterback in Robert Footman.  He has accumulated 2,548 yards passing and tossed 29 TD passes.  His favorite receiver is Dominic Diaz-Ellis with 40 catches for 793 yards and 10 touchdowns.  J’von Collazo and Arthur Poindexter are also threats at wide receiver.  Protime has Upper Dauphin, 34-26.

St. Marys 8-2 vs. Clearfield 10-0 @ Brockway – This is the District 9 AAA Championship game.  Christian Coudriet calls the signals for the Flying Dutchmen.  He is the premier passer in D-9 with 2,634 yards and 23 TDs.  He spreads the ball evenly among 3 receivers, Logan Mosier (50 catches – 833 yards – 8 TDs), Carter Chadsey (50 grabs – 774 yards – 8 TDs), and Charlie Coudriet (47 snags – 618 yards – 4 TDs).  Chadsey has 6 picks on defense and Conner Straub is the leading tackler.  Kent State bound (for defense) Oliver Billotte quarterbacks the Bison.  He has 1,421 yards passing with 18 touchdown passes.  He also has 537 yards running the ball and 13 more TDs.  Karson Kline is the top receiver with 43 catches for 865 yards and 11 scores.  Mark McGonigal has rushed for 874 yards and 12 TDs.  The hard-hitting Bison defense has 5 shutouts and is led by Hayden Kovalick.  The Clearfield ‘D’ has also recorded 39 sacks.  Clearfield’s long-time coach, Tim Janocko, is 2 wins from 300 for his career.  A quick look into the crystal ball finds the Bison coming out on top 38-28.

Allentown Central Catholic 7-3 @ Pottsville 8-2 – ACC is part of the EPC South, a league that saw a surprise every week as teams took to each other like it was playoff time from the word go.  Pottsville’s two losses were to undefeated teams and they beat North Schuylkill, the #1 ranked AAA school last week in the mud.  The Vikings of CC have an offensive core of QB Tamlin Ferguson (1,239 yards passing-7 TDs), WR Griffin Patridge (39 catches-465 yards-6 TDs), and RB Travis Foster who totes the ball over 50% of the time when they run.  Foster has not played the past couple weeks.  Allentown’s defense is led by Peyton Elliot.  For the Crimson Tide, it’s QB Jazce Carabello-Snowell (1,105 yards passing-13 TDs plus 535 yards rushing-5 TDs), WR Amari Dunn and Raeff Dicello between them have 51 pass catches for 778 yards and 9 TDs, and RB Travontai Davis (1,235 yards-15 TDs).  With 96 tackles, Jason Fermaintt leads the Pottsville defense.  Protime had to flip his trusty coin on this one and ACC comes out on top 29-28.

McGuffey 5-5 @ Laurel 10-0 – The Highlanders are better than 5-5.  Led by RB Kyle Brookman (699 yards and 12 touchdowns rushing), McGuffey poses a significant threat to the Laurel Spartans.  QB Philip McCuen has over 1,000 yards combined running and passing plus 10 TDs accounted for running and passing to help the Highlander cause.  Laurel, meantime, has an explosive offense led by Kobe Derosa and Luke McCoy.  Derosa has 981 yards via the ground and 590 more throwing.  He has accounted for 20 TDs.  RB Luke McCoy has traversed for 1,501 yards and 26 TDs.  Cam Caldararo and Brady Cooper are anchors for the Spartan defense.  Laurel 26 McGuffey 17.

Souderton 6-4 @ Quakertown 10-0 – The Panthers of Q’town scored 3 times in the 4th quarter in their first match-up to win.  Quakertown has not been 10-0 since 1956, so congrats to the coaches and especially the players.  The Souderton Indians need good games from their stars, RB Brayden Porter and QB Nate Hageman.  Porter has scurried for 1,060 yards and scored 15 touchdowns, while Hageman has tossed for 649 yards and 4 TDs.  Luke Pollock has an unbelievable 117 tackles so far.  CJ Winters has picked off 4 opponent passes for the Indians.  The Panther attack starts with RB Tyler Woodman and his 1,193 yards rushing and 17 TDs.  QB Will Steich has over 1,000 yards passing with 15 TD tosses.  WR Zach Fondl has 619 receiving yards and 11 TD catches.  Lex Williams leads the Panthers in tackles, John Eatherton leads them in interceptions, and Freddie Retter leads them in sacks.  Quakertown 24 Souderton 14.

Hickory 6-3 vs. Sharon 6-3 @ Wilmington – What a slobber-knocker the first game was, won by Sharon 14-7.  Expect more of the same in this one.  If you want to see a defensive struggle, this is your game.  The Hickory Hornets have a nice passing game with QB Logan Woods passing the pigskin to Jackson Pryts and Ramarion Whitehead.  Woods has 1,830 yards passing and 25 TD tosses.  Whitehead has 44 snabs of passes for 632 yards and 8 TDs.  Pryts has caught 7 TD balls.  Another factor in this game could be Hornet kicker Lucas Jones who has nailed 3 FGs and 35 of 36 PATs.  Sharon’s QB, Mikey Rodrigues has thrown for 1,386 yards and 14 scores.  His favorite target is Ja’on Phillips who has grabbed 46 passes for 825 yards and 9 TDs.  Jayveerh White switched to permanent running back a few weeks ago and has chalked up 9 TDs.  Phillips has 4 picks for the Tiger defense.  Protime’s crystal ball says the Sharon Tigers take the sting out of the Hickory Hornets for the second time this year, 14-10.

Jim Thorpe 6-4 @ Notre Dame Green Pond 7-2 – Quarterback Brett Balliet has tossed the agate for over 1,000 yards for the Olympians.  Wide out Deryl Fisher has 37 grabs for 468 yards and 5 scores.  RB Cameron Tinajero has found the end zone 5 times.  Thorpe’s defense is led by Noah Rosahac and Bryan Bowen.  NDGP lsot a tough one last week and needs to bounce back.  Having Collin Quintano at QB helps.  He has 1,893 yards passing and has thrown 22 TD passes.  WR Tarif Muhammad is a deep threat with 700 yards and 8 TD passes caught.  WR Nadir Sanders has hauled in 47 passes.  Logan Costellano has scored 8 times via the run.  The Crusader defense is led by Ethan O’Neill and Tyler Garcia.  Green Pond wins 32-16.
