PROTIME PREDICTIONS Week One: Who ya got?

Tagged under: News, Protime Predictions

| August 29, 2019

Change.  Protime doesn’t like it much.  His body is changing and that’s no fun dealing with all those little aches and pains.  His six pack abs have changed into a small keg right before his eyes.  Work is changing by going paperless with the modern technological automated contraptions.

Protime even changed his phone which used to be one of those flips that reminded him of the old Star Trek communication devices.  (“Beam me up, Scotty.”)  Now he has a ‘smart’ phone.  Protime found out the phone is not so smart because it always forgets to charge itself.  Plus, it is a nuisance to have.  Between tweeting, taking pictures, and looking up scores of other games, Protime found it really hard to watch and keep the stats of the game he’s covering.

Last week Protime went 19-7 in picking most of the state’s top games.  He should have been 21-5, but he gave in to temptation and changed two of his predictions.  Lesson hopefully learned.  The Premier Pigskin Prognosticator will now unveil his picks of the week.  Enjoy.  Follow him on twitter @Protime_PFN.  He doesn’t always say much, but that will change.

Mount Carmel 1-0 @ Southern Columbia – Are these the two best 2A teams the state let alone the same district?  Protime will be there with his cohorts for a rivalry game extraordinaire.  The Red Tornado was led by QB Tom Reisinger last week.  He threw for 141 yards.  MC’s running back, Shane Weidner, rambled for 100 yards.  Need anyone say more about the Tigers than Julian Fleming, Gaige Garcia, Max Tillett, Cal Haladay and company?  Could SC have a let down after demolishing Hammond, SC on ESPN.  Protime says no.  Tigers win 35-21.

Gateway 1-0 @ Penn-Trafford 1-0 – Wow, another game involving two of the top teams in the state and the same district.  This time it’s a 5A showdown.  The Gators’ QB, Bryson Venanzio, had 246 yards and 3 TDs in their first game, while running back Derrick Davis ran for 173 and scored 4 times.  Warriors’ QB, Gabe Dunlap, garnered 133 yards passing and 130 rushing.  RB Caleb Lisbon scored 3 TDs and high tailed it for 172 yards.  Protime’s crystal ball says the Gators take a bite out of the Warriors, earning a 38-31 victory.

Bangor 1-0 @ Notre Dame Green Pond 1-0 – Notre Dame generated some serious stats last week.  QB Collin Quintano tossed the agate for 283 yards and 4 TDs.  Christian Greggo had 228 all-purpose yards and RB Matt Frauen, Jr. ran for 114 yards.  For the Slaters of Bangor, Kael Godshalk accounted for 136 yards rushing in their win.  All indicators appear to point to the Crusaders, 41-30.

Penns Valley 1-0 @ Clearfield 1-0 – Last year’s game was awesome.  Expect another wing-dinger this year.  Aaron Tobias, PV’s terrific quarterback, delivered 19 of 23 passes on target for 272 yards and 7 TDs in the Rams romp in week zero.  Jake Lezzer of the Bison hauled in 2 touchdown passes and intercepted 2 opponent passes in Clearfield’s opener.  Sophomore QB Oliver Billotte threw for 204 yards and 3 scores.  Protime is leaning toward the Bison 52-48.

La Salle 1-0 @ North Penn 1-0 – La Salle’s quarterback, Jack Machita, and running back, Sam Brown, led a second half comeback against Imhotep last week.  Meanwhile, North Penn’s Knights outdistanced Neshaminy because of RB Khalani Eaton’s amazing 280 rushing yards (2 TDs) and Kolby Barrow’s 147 yards passing.  Protime gazes into the crystal ball and envisions an Explorer triumph, 17-14.

Upper St. Clair 1-0 @ Peters Township 1-0 – The Panthers upended South Fayette in game one, but have a veteran Peters Township Indian squad this time.  Ethan Dahlem was a one-man wrecking crew for USC.  He pitched the pigskin for 160 yards and 2 scores plus he scrambled for another 104 yards.  Peters was led by QB Logan Pfeuffer (132 yds.-2 TDs), WR Josh Casilli (2 TD catches), and RB Ryan Magiske (2 TDs).  Protime says take the Indians by eight, 32-24.

Bethlehem Catholic 1-0 @ Bethlehem Freedom 1-0 – If you live in D-11 you don’t want to miss this shootout.  Beca’s Tavion Banks had 116 yards and 4 scores on only 9 carries last week.  Freedom’s QB, Jared Jenkins tossed 4 TD passes.  This will go to overtime with the Patriots downing the Hawks 28-27.

Methacton 1-0 @ Plymouth-Whitemarsh 1-0 – Both teams have won as many games as they did all of last year which makes this game intriguing in Protime’s eyes.  Methacton’s QB, Michael Merola, threw for 115 yards and 3 touchdowns last week.  The Warriors’ RB, Michael Torcini ran for 109 markers.  The Colonials’ RB, Brian Dresnin, scurried for 188 yards and scored twice in week zero.  Look for the P-W Colonials to outlast the Methacton Warriors 14-10.

Oil City 1-0 @ Franklin 1-0 – Franklin’s Ian Haynes is about to become District 10’s all-time leading passer.  He doesn’t need too many yards to ‘pass’ Damion Terry and Joe Mischler.  Ian slung the pigskin for 303 yards and 5 TDs last week.  His main man for catching TD tosses was Dalton Buckley with four.  The Oilers have a back named Noah Petro who is the heir apparent to Christian Cole.   Noah scored twice in the first game.  Protime flipped a coin, Oil City slips by the Knights, 42-40.

Wyomissing 1-0 @ Pottsville 1-0 – The Wyomissing Spartans were led by RB Max Hurleman’s 182 yards and 4 touchdowns.  The Pottsville Crimson Tide were led by QB Damon Yost and his 5 TDs to go along with 170 yards through the air.  Protime is leaning toward the Crimson Tide 21-17.

Farrell 0-1 @ Wilmington 1-0 – Farrell had the better stats last week, but lost.  Anthony Stallworth tore up the turf for 210 yards for the Steelers.  Wilmington’s Greyhounds appear to have reloaded for 2019 and were led by Darren Miller’s 126 yards on the ground, plus Ethan Susen’s 125.  Both had a touchdown too.  Protime’s crystal ball was fuzzy on this one, so he had to flip a coin.  Wilmington 22 and Farrell 18.

The Others:

Central Dauphin 21 Berks Catholic 10 – The Rams lost a hard-fought game to Wilson and the Saints scored twice in the last 7 minutes to beat Exeter.  Protime is thinking the Rams rebound this week.

Grove City 21 Greenville 7 – The Eagles win over the Trojans in a District 10 contest.

West Chester Rustin 28 Great Valley 21 – The Golden Knights, who Protime actually saw play a couple years ago, are a touchdown better than the Patriots according to the trusty crystal ball.

Brookville 34 Brockway 14 – Blue Raiders over the Rovers.  Watch out for Brookville this year with a healthy quarterback, team speed, and a couple of good ones on the line.

Cedar Crest 30 Hershey 20 – The Falcons fly by the Trojans in an entertaining contest.

Portage 42 North Star 21 – The Mustangs gallop to victory over the Cougars in a battle of green and white teams.

Jersey Shore 36 Selinsgrove 34 – Jersey Shore might be the place to be in the middle of the state as the Bulldogs tame the Seals.

Washington 32 Charleroi 22 – The Little Prexies seem to be one of the better 2A teams in District 7, but will have a battle with the Cougars.

Old Forge 13 Hanover 7 – Can the Blue Devils make it to the title game this time around?  Only time will tell.  Meantime they better watch out for the Nighthawks, who Protime thinks is going to have a year.

Richland 21 Cambria Heights 12 – The Highlanders journey into Ram country and get head-butted, but not too badly.

Middletown 34 Northern York 19 – Northern York has one of Protime’s favorite nicknames in the state, the Polar Bears.  However, Middletown’s Blue Raiders are a better football team at this juncture.

Bellwood-Antis 22 Glendale 13 – Protime picks another blue team, the Blue Devils, to slay the Vikings in a hard-hitting contest.

Scranton Prep 31 Wyoming Area 24 – The Purple and Gold Cavaliers notch win number two over a game Warrior squad.

Freedom 26 Shenango 13 – Bulldogs bark, while the Wildcats purr.

North Schuykill 37 Shamokin 20 – The Spartans are on a mission as they conquer the Indians.
