Last night the 37th annual Pike County Bowl came to a close with Shelby Valley destroying my favorite team in Pike County the Hawks of Pike County Central. This was my tenth time driving from Ohio to cover this bowl game, the first time back in 1998. I can honestly say in my opinion this is the best ran bowl game in the state of Kentucky and those running it go all out in treating not only the media very well but also all of those who attend the games.
The Wildcats would go to the air with 8:24 left in the first with Russ Osborne finding Jonluke Fields for twenty-sox -yards. Fields was wide open making this completion as easy as possible. Just seven seconds late Osbourne was able to take his time and find Brady Bently for the eighteen-yard touchdown to make this a 6-0 game.
After the Wildcats defense grounded the Hawks offense Osborne was right back at it hitting Jesse Cook for twenty-six-yards to set up a nice eighteen-yard touchdown run by Jayden Newsome after Cody Sturgill nailed the point after kick we had a 12-0 game with 5:02 left in the opening quarter.
Pike Central would show a little life when Matt Anderson score on a fifty-three-yard score where he looked like a pinball by reversing the field bouncing this way and that way before finally running away from the Wildcats defense. Rudy Sanchez hit the point after kick to give us a 12-7 game with 3:53 showing on the clock.
The Wildcats, whose offense would total 472 yards (unofficially) in a large part due to so many missed tackles by the Hawks who constantly were out of position to make the tackle or by attempting to step to the side and arm tackle, would get on the scoreboard again when Bently hauled in a pass and went forty-four-yards for the score. This time the Wildcats elected to kick the point after with Trey Compton easily nailing it to make the score 19-7.
The last big play of the quarter came when Lincoln Taylor sacked Daymon Scammell for a seven-yard loss. At this stage of the game, the large loud crowd knew it was just a matter of time before the running clock was going to be put into play. The Wildcats offense was on a mission and their attacking defense was right behind them as both units dominated the quarter.
Taylor would set up the next Wildcats score with a nice twenty-two-yard run where he should have been stopped after a few yards. The score came on a fine twenty-four-yard run from Osborn to make this a 26-7 game. The Shelby Valley defense would get a nice play from Hunter Mullins threw Scammell down for a loss of two on a quarterback run. The Wildcats defensive line dominated the Hawks offensive line all game long. This became a 33-7 game when Newsome broke free for a nineteen-yard score.
The Wildcats offense would end a five-play, forty-two-yard drive with a diving catch for the score by Jesse Cook. The point after kick was blocked by Lane Adams to keep this a 45-7 game. The Hawks never seem to quit in this one it was just a matter of a team not being prepared for this one and that caused things to snowball in a hurry.
With the running clock being out into play the entire second half went by in a flash. The Wildcats got a fifty-three-yard touchdown reception from Kaden Kiser with Brady Johnson making the throw to make this a 52-7 game. The final score in this one came on a four-yard run from Joshson to give us the final score of 59-7.
