South Range Snatches Victory Over Poland With Last Minute Score, 17-16 (PHOTO GALLERY)

After struggling to keep up with a determined Poland squad, South Range finally found a way to victory in the final minute. Trailing 16-10, Tommy Titus caught a 13-yard touchdown pass to even the score. And Kicker Luke Starkey’s successful conversion kick gave South Range the lead that had eluded them for the first 47 minutes and 44 seconds.
Poland had played a tough, ground and pound formula that had been working most of the game. Eating the clock and just chipping away at the yards in a determined effort to keep the ball from South Range. Early in the game, Vito Kamara raced 65 yards for a touchdown to give Poland their first lead of the game, 7-0. Holding it through much of the first quarter before South Range’s Tristan Toy found the endzone on an 8-yard run. Poland added to their lead in the first half with a touchdown run and a 42-yard field goal. Though South Range defenders broke up the conversion attempt on the touchdown, blocking the try and creating what would be the winning margin later in the game.
The comeback started in the fourth quarter, when Luke Starkey converted a 34 yard field goal to close the deficit to 16-10. Two disastrous finishes to drives by Poland setup South Range’s final possession. Aided by a pass interference call that setup the field position for the final score.
On the last drive of the game, Poland’s quarterback scrambled repeatedly through the backfield buying time for anyone to be open. Finally unloading on a deep pass down the left side that fell incomplete, defended by Gaven Nagy.
South Range will move on to the state semifinals to play Liberty Center next week at a location to be determined.
