Team effort from Hawks knocks Rams from the unbeaten!

Hawks beat unbeaten Rams behind a total team effort! IUP are PSAC Champions!

The Rams came to Indiana undefeated. They were 5-0 all time against Indiana. They had Harlin Hill Trophy winner Tyson Bagent at quarterback. IUP was without their best player Duane Brown. IUP appeared to have little chance at victory. IUP’s game was easy, play tough defense, protect the ball and keep the ball away from Bagent. They Hawks beat unbeaten Rams behind a total team effort! IUP are PSAC Champions!

The Rams came to Indiana undefeated. They were 5-0 all time against Indiana. They had Harlin Hill Trophy winner Tyson Bagent at quarterback. IUP was without their best player Duane Brown. IUP appeared to have little chance at victory. IUP’s game was easy, play tough defense, protect the ball and keep the ball away from Bagent. They needed a total team effort. It was time for the next man up.
IUP came away with a thrilling 24-21 victory. Total yards were almost even thanks to a great performance by the Crimson Hawks offensive line. IUP had the ball for ten more minutes than Shepherd, thanks to a strong running game. The Hawks had 188 yards rushing. Adam Houser had 144 yards rushing after entering the game in the first quarter replacing starter Dayjure Stewart who left with a leg injury. The Hawks also didn’t turn the ball over, as well as picking off Bagent twice.
After holding the Rams to a three and out, IUP drove 65 yards in 13 plays converting two fourth downs. Dayjure Stewart caught the first of Mak Sexton’s three touchdown passes, breaking a tackle near the goal line.The Rams immediately responses by driving straight down the field, but a diving interception by Darius Bruce ended the drive. Both teams would than punt, before IUP would go on another eight play 55 yard drive. Nick Andrasi capped the drive with a field goal. Shepherd would again response immediately. Tyson Bagent threw his first touchdown to Rodney Dorsey. The Hawks would punt on their next possession. The half ended with Bagent throwing an incompletion on a Hail Mary.
IUP started the second half with a 12 play 93 yard 7 minute scoring drive. Sexton’s second touchdown went to Daniel Deabner. Again the Rams responded immediately. This drive ended in the Hawks red zone when Karen Frazier picked off Bagent and raced 67 yards to the Rams 31. Mak Sexton’s third touchdown pass to Cole Laney capped the six play drive. The Hawks were up 17 going to the fourth quarter. Shepherd would again response immediately. Ronnie Brown capped the 12 play 60 yard drive. Both teams would than exchange punts. Shepherd down 10 points with just over seven minutes to go went for it on fourth and two from their own 16. The pass was incomplete. THE Hawks with a chance to put the game away managed only eight yards and turned it over on downs when Sexton threw an incompletion, worse yet they took only one minute off the clock. Bagent would than lead the Rams on a 92 yard touchdown drive. EJ Morgan caught Bagent’s second touchdown pass of the game.The Hawks recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock. Final IUP 24 Shepherd 21
