With the playoffs underway many have questioned how the Public League will declare representatives for the District 12 championship games against the Catholic League champs due to it being the first year there is just one Public League playoff that includes all classifications. The 8 teams that qualified for the Public League Playoffs consisted of 5 teams in 6A, 1 team in 5A and 2 teams in 3A. In order to qualify for District 12 championship games, it was announced a few weeks ago a team must qualify and participate in the Public League Playoffs with the exception of 1A and 2A programs.
With those restrictions unless an appeal is granted there will be no 4A Public League participant in the District 12 championship game this year meaning the Catholic League Champion will receive a bye on 11/15 and then meet a District 1 opponent. As it stands now if the favorites prevail Imhotep & Lincoln will meet next week in a rematch of last year’s title game with the winner advancing to play the District 12 6A title game against the Catholic League champion on 11/15. In the event Bartram were to win the Public League title Lincoln via their head-to-head win over Imhotep would be the 6A Public League champion representing the league in the championship game.
In the 5A Classification Olney via being the highest placed team in the 5A classification will play the Catholic League 5A champion on 11/15.
In the 3A Classification John Bartram finished as the highest ranked team in the league and will play the Catholic League champion either Neumann Goretti or Conwell Egan on 11/15.
