Chris Edmonds got the night started for the Fighting Irish when he used some excellent work from his offensive line and some nice speed to pick up nearly 40 yards, with 8:20 left in the quick-paced opening quarter. Using a nice block from Tyrell Green, Edmonds would pick up another 17 yards at the 6:45 mark of the quarter. The drive came to an end with a 1-yard touchdown run by the speedy Ty’Waun Clark, the Fighting Irish quarterback. Brian Bishop made this a 7-0 game with his point-after kick, with 5:41 left in the quarter.

Jacqai Long would be sacked by Deandre Ellis causing a fumble and when the dust cleared the Fighting Irish had come up with the ball just 31 yards away from another score. Just three plays later Clark would scramble around and then take off downfield to make this a 14-0 game, with 4:16 left in the quarter. Though it was early a major difference seem to be how the smaller Central Catholic line was giving the larger Knights lines fits.

Two more bigger plays one each from each team would end the quarter. For Central Catholic, Ramon Foster Jr. got to Lamar Sperling for a 3-yard loss, and for the Knights, Devin Bell got to Clark for a loss of ten.

Sperling would get things gone for the Knights with a 28-yard run but a tipped pass was picked off by Braden Awls and returned for a 90-yard score to make this a 21-0 game, with 9:22 left in the half. Sperling would have three carries that totaled 70 yards with the final run ending with an 11-yard score. Out of the hold of Joey Hardman, Ryan Burns nailed the point after kick making this a 21-7 game, with 6:37 left in the half.

The Fighting Irish ended the scoring in the half on a nice 15-yard touchdown pass from Clark to Durye’a Hall to give us the 28-7 score. Sperling had 197 yards by himself, while the Knights as a team had a total of 190 net yards. Central Catholic as a team had a net of 182 yards.

The third quarter would see Sperling on 3rd and seventeen, with 9:28 showing on the clock break off a 49-yard run to make this a 28-14 game. Sperling who is headed to Buffalo would have a record-setting night before all was said and done. Sperling would break off another 17 yards to help set up his next score a little later in the quarter this one was just a 1-yard run, with 0:38 seconds left in the quarter.

The final quarter was scoreless but had several nice moments with the biggest coming from the Central Catholic defense. There was a stop on Sperling on fourth and short that gave the ball back to their offense, then a game-clinching interception from Winston Delp as time expired sent the Central Catholic fans off in a celebration that Toledo will not soon forget. Sperling ended his night with 356 yards, and 3 touchdowns on 40 carries. As a whole, the Knights had a net total of 362 yards. For the winners, they netted 243 yards.
