Thursday night I made my first visit to Troy High School to catch their battle with the Vandalia Butler Aviators in a match-up that was predicted by Calprpes to be a tight one. Troy came in 2-0 with wins over Dayton Dunbar (53-6) and a 58-0 win over Greenville. Butler came in with a 1-1 record. A big win over Piqua (27-3) after falling in week one to a very good Northmont team (28-10)

The first quarter was dominated by the defense with the biggest plays being a 13-yard catch from Dakota Manson where he was covered as tight as possible by the Butler defenders and then an interception from  Sam Mitchell to give the Aviators some much-needed momentum. The second quarter was a dominant one for the defenses as each team took turns turning the other away from any offense production. The one big play on offense came on a yard run by Troy on a fake punt with Devon Strobel pulling off the fake with a nice run.

With 8:10 left in the third facing a third and ten, the Trojans got a big 26-yard catch from Logan Ullery he had two break a couple of tackles to get all the yards. That helped set up a 1-yard touchdown run from Manson. After Cameron Stoltz hit the point after kick we had a 7-0 Troy lead, with 5:46 left in the third. Butler would get a nice play from Mitchell when he got to Aiden Lirlpatrick for a loss of two. Then the Butler defense would get a bigger play from Riley Seibert who got to Aiden Gorman for a 7-yard loss on a fourth and five try. The Butler offense would get a big 13-yard run down to the Troy 39-yard line with 0:46 seconds left in the quarter.

The fourth quarter would see Noah Miller for the Trojans sack Lukas Seibert for a loss of seven with 11:33 left on the clock. Almost three minutes later the Trojans offense would get a 34-yard catch from Jahri Ward on a nice thrown ball from Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick did not throw much but did look good at times when he did. I had him 6-7 on the night with a touchdown and a pick on the night. The touchdown would be a 44-yarder to Gorman with 6:43 left in the game to put the Trojans up 14-0. With 5:00 minutes left the Trojans defense would get another good play when Devon Stroble got to Rammel Hayden for a 4-yard loss. Braylen Crup caught a long pass for close to a 40-yard gain to get the ball rolling for the Butler offense. That was followed by a 15-yard catch from Julius Rusk that set up a 10-yard touchdown run from Kaiden Bates. After Mason Reckner connected on his point after kick, we had a 14-7 game with 2:51 left. The last score came on a safety where the Butler quarterback seemed to slip down in the end zone making the final score 16-7 Troy.
