KINGSTON, Pa. — The Wyoming Seminary Blue Knights put on a dominating performance in Saturday’s nonconference football season opener, cruising to a 50-0 win against the Capital Prep Lions of Harlem, New York, at Nesbitt Memorial Stadium. After receiving the opening kick, Capital Prep (0-2) coughed up a fumble, which was recovered by Gavin Green (Jr., Ontario, Canada) and returned for an 18-yard touchdown. Gio Gallo (Jr., Hanover Township, Pa.) connected on his first extra point of the game for a 7-0 lead with 10:58 left in the first quarter. Gallo was 6 for 6 on extra points.

Wyoming Seminary (1-0) proceeded to score four more touchdowns — and a safety — before the end of the first quarter. First, Michael McMaugh (Jr., Center Harbor, N.H.) threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to co-captain Chief Montalvo (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.). A bad snap on the extra point led to a run short of the goal line, making it 13-0. Another McMaugh-to-Montalvo touchdown was sandwiched between a pair of touchdown runs by Malichi Greaves (Soph., Springfield Gardens, N.Y.). The safety at the end of the first quarter forced a Capital Prep kickoff, which was taken 63 yards to the end zone by Justin Denson (Sr., Pawtucket, Rhode Island) for a 43-0 advantage.

A running clock was in effect for the second through fourth quarters and Sem added one more touchdown, a 42-yard rush by backup quarterback Nico Andrews (Sr., New Rochelle, N.Y.) in the fourth quarter.

Upcoming schedule: The Blue Knights are at home again next Saturday, Sept. 16, for their second game. They kick off at 2 p.m. against Kiski School. After then playing three consecutive games on the road, Sem returns home for a 2 p.m. kickoff Saturday, Oct. 14, versus St. Frances Academy’s Regional team from Maryland.
