The second day of Wyoming’s state championship games held at War Memorial Stadium started with two Class 1A games, and ended with the heavyweight division. The nightcap being the 4A contest between the Sheridan Broncs and the Campbell County Camels.
But first, the day started with the six-man title game between Little Snake River and Burlington at 10am. Unlike Friday where it could be argued they were playing at “Warm Memorial Stadium” due to the unseasonably warm 64 degree afternoon. Saturday was cooler and much windier. The biting 24+ mph winds playing havoc with passes, hats, pylons, and kicks.
Little Snake River and Burlington were well acquainted, and faced off in the regular season. That game going to the Rattlers of Little Snake River, 53-8. In the title clash rematch, Little Snake River recorded five first half interceptions and a suffocating defense turned in a 50-0 halftime lead. With the second half a running clock affair, the Rattlers held on to a comfortable 67-16 victory to claim their fourth state title in the last five seasons and seventh overall.
In the early afternoon, the 9-man championship took place between Pine Bluffs and Rocky Mountain. Another one-sided outcome as Pine Bluffs defended their 2024 title with a 48-0 defeat of Rocky Mountain.
And at 4pm, the final high school game of the 2025 season kicked off in Laramie. The Sheridan Broncs came into the game riding a 54-game winning streak. The third longest in the nation. Four time defending state champions in Class 4A. And winners of 8 of the last 10 championships as well.
The Campbell County Camels, trying for their first title since 2008, came in with an interim head coach and a 22-19 upset of Cheyenne East in the semifinal round.
Sheridan opened the scoring with a short touchdown run by Keegan Rager on 4th down, to get the early lead. But the Camels wouldn’t be done away with that easily, tying the game on a short touchdown rush of thier own by James Hahn. Tying the game at 7-7 with Carson Eisheid’s PAT.
Sheridan takes the halftime lead just minutes later as Breck Reed goes 11 yards on the ground, bouncing to the right side to skirt the sideline and give the Broncs their 14-7 lead.
In the third quarter, after a Camels drive stalls inside the redzone, Carson Eisheid narrows the lead thanks to a 32 yard field goal. Trailing just 14-10 with 5:27 left in the third. With some back-and-forth going deep into the fourth quarter, Sheridan settles for a field goal, giving them back their seven point margin, up 17-10 with 3:29 left in the contest and season.
After turning the ball over on downs late in the game, Campbell County’s defense had one last opportunity to regain possession. After a second down play with less than two minutes remaining, a defensive penalty for unsportsmanlike actions gave Sheridan a fresh set of downs. Where they could kneel out the clock and claim their 55th straight victory and fifth straight state championship. Winning a close one, 17-10 over Campbell County.
Bringing the season in the Equality State to an end.
