Last night I made the drive to Xenia, Ohio to watch the undefeated Buccaneers battle league foe and winless West Carrolton. In talking to Coach Mobley from West Carrollton he said this year basically is a learning experience for his young team and he is happy with the effort they have put forth this season.

Xenia made a big statement right out of the gate when Zach Salyers recorded a sack on Logan Cloyd. That led to a three-and-out for the Pirates, who lost three yards on the opening drive. Xenia would get a Tremell Wright eleven-yard touchdown reception followed by the point-after kick from Mason Rubio to lead 7-0, with 8:47 showing on the clock.

After getting the ball back Xenia took just three plays to score again on a seventeen-yard catch from Wright on a nicely thrown ball from Gavin McManus making this a 13-0 game, with 6:18 left in the opening quarter. Louis Freeman sacked Cloyd to help get the Buccaneers defense get the Pirates offense off the field and their offense back on. A quick three-play drive with Trei’Shaun Sanders scoring from six yards out made this a 20-0 game, with 3:16 left in the quarter. For Sanders, the rushing touchdown tied the school record at twenty for a season.

McManus would hit Wright for a fifteen-yard completion late in the quarter to help get the next Xenia drive going. Just forty-five seconds into the second quarter this became a 27-0 game when McManus again hit Wright, this time for a seventeen-yard touchdown. The Pirates would get a catch by Durrell Pope, but he was hit for a four-yard loss by Austin Penewit.

After getting the ball back Xenia needed just two plays to make this a 34-0 game with Sanders scoring on a forty-one-yard run to break the schools all-time rushing mark for touchdowns in the season at twenty-one. The Buccaneers defense came up big again when Trent Smith planted Pope into the turf for a four-yard loss. This became a 36-0 game when Jamell Smith sacked Cloyd in the endzone, with 6:56 left in the half.

At the 5:25 mark, Ramon Browder would shake and bake his way to a Barry Sanders-like thirty-yard touchdown to make this a 43-0 game. Elijah Johnson would make two straight carries, with the second one going for twenty-two yards to make this a 50- game, with 2:56 left on the clock.

The Pirates young players would show no quit and with 2:29 left on the clock, Christopher Yow hauled in a nice sixty-yard catch. Cloyd would find Antonio Robinson for seven yards to set up the Pirates first score and that came on a seven-yard catch from Robinson to make this a 50-6 game.

Jace Jones got the Xenia offense going in the second half with an eighteen-yard run. Though the drive would end without any points as the Pirates defense was still giving everything they had even after the poor opening half. Ronnie Butler would stop Pope for a short loss as both defenses were taking turns flexing their muscles. The Buccaneers offense would get a six-yard touchdown run from Johnson to make this a 57-6 game, with 4:00 left in the running clock third quarter. The Pirates answered with a score of their own with Robinson scoring on a seventy-five-yard catch and run to make this a 57-12 game. Johnson would close out the third quarter with a nice forty-yard run.

Johnson ended the drive early in the fourth when he rushed in for the six-yard score making this a 64-12 game. Jaden Caudill and Ayden Brewer teamed up to sack Cloyd, with 9:32 left in the game. Cloyd and the Pirates offense converted a fourth and long when Dexter Pitts III hauled in a nice pass. Cloyd found Pope for twenty-three yards to set up the final score of the game that came on a Pitts ten-yard run to give us the final score 64-20. The Buccaneers defense made one more big play before the contest ended with Smith recovering a muffed punt by Pitts.
