On Wednesday, the PIAA voted on then released their state playoff brackets for football.  There were two choices, one would have ended football the weekend before Thanksgiving, but the board voted on the second option with places the titles games on Friday and Saturday following Thanksgiving. The games will still be played at Hersheypark Stadium and the proposed times are 11am, 3:30pm and 8 PM.  The rotation of which classes will play in the timeslots will be determined at a later date and travel, location of schools will be used as a factor.

PIAA Executive Director Bob Lombardi says the brackets were made in such a fashion as to give a buffer between fall and winter sports which was recommended by the PIAA Sports Medicine committee.  Now it’s up to each individual district to figure out how to determine seeds or if their district will participate in the tournament at all.  Because some leagues have yet to start, they also allowed each district to determine the number of games needed to qualify for the playoffs. It could essentially be 2 or 3 games as they went with 33% needed at a minimum.

Also approved on a first reading was to allow schools to continue scheduling games after the regular season ends. This would allow teams that haven’t fulfilled their maximum number of games allowable to keep scheduling games through Thanksgiving weekend.

The board also mentioned they will continue to meet every two weeks to keep up to date on what’s happening across the state.
