Slippery Rock scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from IUP for a 42-26 win Saturday afternoon at George P. Miller Stadium, improving to 7-0. IUP fell to 5-2.

The Rock jumped out early. JayJay Jordan fumbled on the opening drive and IUP recovered at the Slippery Rock 30, but Preston Rathway missed a 27-yard field goal. IUP answered on a 47-yard touchdown run by Leon Parson, making it 21-7 after Rathway’s PAT. Rathway then hit a 50-yard field goal as time expired in the half to cut the lead to 21-10 at the break.

IUP pulled within a field goal on the final play of the third quarter. Mason Maggs found Jeremiah Coleman for a 22-yard touchdown pass, and Maggs connected with Parson on the 2-point conversion to make it 21-18.

Slippery Rock took over from there. Jordan broke a 27-yard touchdown run with 11:24 left, making it 28-18. Owens ran in from 3 yards out with 8:02 left to make it 35-18. On IUP’s next possession, Owen Suah intercepted Maggs and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown, putting the Rock up 42-18 with 7:42 left.

IUP scored once more when Maggs threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Landyn Moore and ran in the 2-point conversion himself with 2:47 left, making the final 42-26.
