Defense and Special Teams:
- Punxsy’s freshman kicker, Owen Roken, is good and may be a name to remember. He kicked 2 field goals against Brookville, one from 37 and the other from 36. Both would have been good from 50 or more!
- Hayat Muhammed, DuBois, had a 90-yard kickoff return touchdown.
- Hunter Tkacik, Curwensville, had a pick six for 92 yards.
- Manning Splain, Otto-Eldred, had a 55-yard pick six.
- Owen Rounsville, Smethport, came up with 3 interceptions!
- Matthew Gilmore, St. Marys, had 2 interceptions.
- Caleb Wonderly, Coudersport, had a pair of picks.
- Koby Sheppard, Cameron County, recovered a fumble in the end zone.
- Peyton Ayers and Danny Vanvladricken, Coudersport, both had 11 tackles.
Game of the Week: DuBois beating Karns City 46-43 wins the prize for most competitive game in D-9 this past week. The Beavers trailed at the half 36-33, so only 20 points were scored in half two. The first half had huge momentum swings as the game went back and forth. KC led 7-0, but then DuBois scored 20 unanswered points. The Gremlins eventually scored to take a 28-27 lead. DuBois got a late 2nd quarter TD to go back on top but Karns City found the end zone in the waning seconds to lead 36-33 at the break. DuBois went up in the second half 46-36 before KC scored in the early portion of the 4th to pull within 46-43. The Gremlins got inside the Beaver 30 late in the 4th but the DuBois ‘D’ came up with the stop to preserve the win.
Other Notes: Central Clarion, Clearfield, and Port Allegany are the only remaining unbeaten teams in the district. There is a good chance all three can go undefeated. Absent of any upsets, the major obstacles on each schedule are near the end. Central Clarion has to travel to Butler the last week. Clearfield must play BEA, Richland, and Central their last 3 games, although none of them may be as good as they’ve been the past few years. Port Allegany has to visit Brookville the next to last week of the season.
Let’s look at where some of District Nine’s offensive leaders stand compared to the entire state of Pennsylvania according to what has been reported to MaxPreps. Braylon Wagner is now 2nd in PA as far as passing yardage with 1250. Trey Wingard ranks 5th and Aiden Patton 6th. Aiden Bliss of Port Allegany leads the state in TDs (17) and overall scoring (106)! He is the only player with over 100 points in PA. Brady Collins ranks 4th in scoring and is tied for 2nd in touchdowns. Port’s Tristan Kiser is 9th in TDs and 11th in scoring. Bliss ranks 2nd in the state in rushing yardage with 915, Collins is 3rd, and Malakai Zucal of Cameron Co. is 7th. Blake Pisarcik is the 13th leading receiver yardage wise in Pennsylvania. Again, these stats are according to what has been reported to MaxPreps.
Upcoming Game of the Week:
- Cameron County 3-1 @ Otto-Eldred 3-1
- Karns City 2-1 @ Punxsutawney 3-1
- Union-AC Valley 3-1 @ Port Allegany 4-0
