Here are the top performers of the week, along with a couple other tidbits:
Quarterbacks:
- Jase Ferguson, Central Clarion, had 6 TD passes for 2nd week in a row in throwing for 246 yards. He had 344 all-purpose yards. He now has 119 career touchdown passes and needs 19 more TD passes to top Matt Bodamer’s D9 record of 137.
- Trey Wingard, DuBois, tossed 5 touchdowns and threw for 274 yards.
- Tyler Dunn, Curwensville, had 351 all-purpose yards including 249 yards rushing with 3 touchdowns, one being a 96-yarder.
- Aiden Patton, Brockway, passed for 3 touchdowns and 326 yards.
- Ben Paul of St. Marys tossed 3 TD passes.
- Shane Magee, Otto-Eldred, fired off 4 touchdown passes.
- Dom Corcetti, Keystone, threw for 248 yards and a pair of scores.
- John Wright, Coudersport, threw 4 touchdown passes.
- Colby Barr, Sheffield accounted for 3 touchdowns.
- Easton Belfiore, Brookville, passed for 3 TDs.
Running Backs:
- Beau Thomas, Punxsutawney, broke the school record by rushing for 312 yards. He had 237 yards total rushing yards in the previous 5 games! He only carried the ball 11 times and scored 4 TDs, including an 80-yarder and a 95-yarder.
- Aiden Bliss, Port Allegany, ran for 200 yards and 4 scores on only 10 touches.
- Brady Collins, Clearfield, rushed for 198 yards which broke his string of 5 games rushing for 200 yards or more. He scored 3 touchdowns.
- Rocco Delhunty, Ridgway, rushed for 173 yards.
Receivers:
- Teammates Carter Vos and Nate Kougher of DuBois caught 3 and 2 touchdown passes respectively. Vos had 104 receiving yards.
- Ray’shene Thomas, Otto-Eldred, grabbed 3 TD passes.
- Jesse Siewicki, Central Clarion, only caught 2 passes but they went for 120 yards and 2 TDs. One went for 90 yards.
- Drew Keth, Keystone, had 180 receiving yards and 2 touchdown catches plus a third on a fumble recovery return.
- Danny Vanvladricken, Coudersport, had 108 receiving yards and 2 TDs.
Defense and Special Teams:
- Drew Keth, Keystone, returned a fumble 48 yards for a TD.
- Wil Wortman, St. Marys, booted a 47-yard field goal.
- Ben Reynolds, St. Marys, picked off two passes.
- Manning Splain and Dave Schenfield, Otto-Eldred both returned interceptions for scores. Splain’s was for 30 yards and Schenfield’s 65 yards.
- Dawson Welch, Otto-Eldred, returned a kickoff 70 yards for a touchdown.
- This is amazing! For the second week in a row Central Clarion blocked two punts that resulted in touchdowns! This week Braylon Beckwith and Matt Alston did the honors. Beckwith returned a blocked punt 25 yards for the score and Alston had a 15-yard return of a blocked punt.
- In keeping with Central Clarion, let’s talk about their defense some more. The #2 ranked CC Wildcats (Class 2A) held Karns City’s brutal ground attack to just 18 yards for the entire game.
- Aiden Bliss, Port Allegany’s star running back can play some defense too. He brought down 21 opposing ball carriers in their game with Ridgway.
Game of the Week: Redbank Valley and Kane. The Wolves led most of the game, sniffing the upset with one of the state’s Honorable Mentions in Class A. But Bulldog quarterback, Braylon Wagner, hit a short pass with only 22 seconds left to give Redbank the 22-16 victory. The game-winning drive started at Redbank’s 22 when Kane failed to convert a 4th down attempt that would have enabled them to pretty much run out the clock.
Other Notes: Believe it or not, the regular season is more than half over now. In the coming weeks we will have some more interesting individual and team 2024 season stats.
Upcoming Games of the Week:
- Karns City 3-2 @ Redbank Valley 5-1
- Port Allegany 6-0 @ St. Marys 3-2
- Union/AC Valley 4-2 @ Punxsy 4-2
