2025 District 9 Review – 10th Week

Here are the top performers of the week, along with a couple other tidbits (SEE ARTICLE TOMORROW FOR D-9 PLAYOFF PREVIEW):
Quarterbacks:
- Xavier Stockman, Ridgway, ran for 182 yards on only 5 carries and on 3 of those totes he scored a touchdown.
- Xavier Curry, Clearfield, had 228 all-purpose yards, passing for over 100 and rushing for over 100.
- Cole Johnston, Karns City, had 230 all-purpose yards with 2 TDs via the ground game.
- Eric Novosel, Kane, tossed 2 TD passes and ran for a TD.
- Dom Corcetti, Keystone, had himself a night by running for 258 yards and 5, count ‘em, 5 touchdowns.
- Andrew Kifer, Union/AC Valley, passed for 229 yards.
- Brody Wehler, St. Marys, threw for 3 TDs and rushed for another.
- Aiden Patton, Brockway, threw 2 TD tosses and 222 yards.
Running Backs:
- Aiden Bliss, Port Allegany, ran for 276 yards and 5 TDs (He scored a 6th TD on defense – see below).
- Ethan Rex, Central Clarion, scored 3 times, two running the ball and one more receiving.
- Colton Ryan, Clearfield, gained 150 yards, scoring 4 TDs.
- Hunter Scherer, Karns City, scored 3 touchdowns.
- Joey Spence, Keystone, racked up 149 yards and a pair of scores,
- Jonah Ganoe, Smethport, cruised the field for 226 yards and 2 TDs.
Receiving:
- Jaxon Huffman, Redbank Valley, hauled in 6 passes.
- Logan Moore, Punxsutawney, snared 3 touchdown passes.
- Thatcher Hanzely, DuBois, grabbed 10 aerials.
- Jaxson Hanzely, DuBois, had 104 yards receiving.
Defense and Special Teams:
- Owen Roken, Punxsutawney, banged home his third 40+ yard field goal of the year when he connected for a 42-yarder.
- Mike Miller, St. Marys, made the baker’s dozen (13) tackles.
- Nico Assalone, St. Marys, had a defensive trifecta by intercepting a pass, recovering a fumble, and blocking a punt.
- Aiden Bliss, Port Allegany, traversed the entire field when he returned a fumble for about 95 yards. He also made 8 tackles.
- Julian Kaple, Port Allegany, brought down 9 opposing ball carriers.
- Colbin Elliot, Union/AC Valley, had 8 take downs of football toters.
- Nate Steger, Ridgway, returned a punt 46 yards for a touchdown.
- Wyatt Blendinger, Otto-Eldred, had a 20-yard pick six.
Other Tidbits:
- Port Allegany’s all-state running back, Aiden Bliss, now has 7,003 career rushing yards according to MaxPreps and trails D-9’s all-time leader, Nick Stewart of Curwensville, who has 7,324 yards. The magic number now is 322.
- Bliss is up to 108 career rushing touchdowns and 120 TDs overall.
- Jake Henry of Keystone became the Panther career leading tackler with over 300.
- DuBois’s Trey Wingard broke the school career passing touchdown record a couple weeks ago, and now sits all alone with 89 TD tosses. He needs 703 more yards and 6 more TD passes to break the career passing yardage record and the single season touchdown pass record.
- Union/AC Valley went 9-1 this year with their only loss to state ranked Port Allegany. It looks like this was the Falcon Knights’ best record ever since the co-op of the two schools for football happened in 2016.
Where District 9 Players Rank in State Stats According to MaxPreps:
- Trey Wingard, DuBois, leads the state in passing yardage (2,610) and TD passes (36). He is 3rd in total yards (2,785) and 4th in completions (162).
- Aiden Bliss, Port Allegany, is 4th in rushing yards (1,935) and 5th in rushing touchdowns (28). He’s tied for 1st in with 216 points scored.
- Jaxson Hanzely, DuBois, is tops in the state in receiving yards (1,473) and TDs (20). He is tied for 3rd in receptions (65).
- Jaxon Huffman, Redbank Valley, is tied for 3rd with Hanzely for receptions (65) and 5th in yards (989).
- Dom Corcetti, Keystone, is 5th in the state in scoring (138 points).
- Jonah Ganoe, Smethport, is 7th in PA in scoring (131 points).
- Owen Roken, Punxsutawney, is 3rd in kick points (64) and tied for 7th for quite a few others in field goals (7).
- Mason Bell, Karns City, is tied for 3rd in sacks (12).
Games of the Week:
- Clearfield defeated Penn Cambria 34-28 in overtime in dramatic fashion Friday night. The Bison were down 21-7 in the second half when they staged a comeback that pulled them to within one point at 21-20. Penn Cambria, however, scored with a minute to go to in the game to increase their lead to 28-20. Things looked bleak for Clearfield, but they put together a quick drive going 70 yards or so, scoring with 11 ticks on the clock. A trick play garnered the two-point conversion to send the game into overtime. Clearfield then won the contest with a touchdown after Penn Cambria missed a field goal.
