Tagged under: District 9, News, pfn, Playoffs

| November 10, 2025

Here are the top performers of the week, along with a couple other tidbits (SEE ARTICLE TOMORROW FOR D-9 PLAYOFF PREVIEW):

Quarterbacks:

  • Braylon Wagner, Redbank Valley, had 326 yards passing the pigskin and 98 markers running.  He threw 3 TD passes and scored another rushing.
  • Trey Wingard, DuBois, pegged the rock for 234 yards.
  • Dom Corcetti, Keystone, ran for 2 touchdowns, plus he tossed a touchdown pass to account for all 3 of his team’s TDs.
  • Maddox Hetrick, Punxsutawney, threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for another in gaining 139 yards on the ground.
  • Andrew Kifer, Union/AC Valley, had 2 touchdown throws.

 Running Backs:

  • Aiden Bliss, Port Allegany, ran through, around, and over the opposition on his record setting day.  329 yards and a half dozen touchdowns was his reward for his day at the office.
  • Ethan Rex, Central Clarion, gained 105 yards.

 Receivers:

  • Jaxon Huffman, Redbank Valley, scored 2 touchdowns, 1 receiving and 1 running.
  • Beau Thomas, Punxsutawney, caught 3 touchdown passes.
  • Jaxson Hanzely, DuBois, had 8 snags for 191 yards.

 Defense and Special Teams:

  • C.J. Emrick, Karns City, recovered a fumble in the end zone and intercepted a pass.
  • Shane Emrick, Karns City, returned an interception 16 yards for a TD.
  • Karns City’s defense forced 5 turnovers in their 2A championship tilt, turning 2 of those into touchdowns (see above).
  • Punxsutawney’s defense held Clearfield’s vaunted running game to a total of 81 yards on 42 carries.  And had two red zone stands in the second quarter that may have determined the game’s outcome.

Other Tidbits:

  • Port Allegany’s all-state running back, Aiden Bliss, set the new District Nine career yards rushing record by running for 329 yards.  That gives him 7,332 career rushing yards which tops Curwensville’s Nick Stewart by 8 yards.  Stewart had 7,324.
  • Bliss has 114 career rushing touchdowns and 126 overall.  He holds the D-9 single season rushing records of 56 touchdowns and 3,430 yards, both of them set last year in Port’s historic run to the state championship game.

Aiden Bliss, Port Allegany

  • Trey Wingard of DuBois rewrote some Beaver passing records.  He broke the school career completion record of 518.  He ended his career with 541.  He also topped the single season touchdown pass mark of 41.  He now has 42.  Trey owns the career passing touchdown record with 95.  He fell 185 yards shy of the career passing yardage record of 8048.

Trey Wingard, DuBois

  • Redbank’s Braylon Wagner, quarterback extraordinaire, has set many Bulldog records over the past 4 years.  He holds career records in pass yardage (9,429), touchdown passes (119), and completions (651).  He holds single season records in pass yards (3,083), TD tosses (46), and completions (209).  Wagner’s career stats will increase this week against Port Allegany as will his single season completion mark of 209.  As far as we know he holds career rushing records for a QB also, such as touchdowns scored (29) and yardage (1,519).

Braylon Wagner, Redbank Valley

  • Maddox Hetrick has set a few Punxsutawney passing records.  He holds the career yardage mark at 4,300 and counting.  He holds the single season record of 1,846.  And he holds the career completion record of 265.

Games of the Week:

  • State ranked and unbeaten Hollidaysburg beat DuBois 25-24 in what was one of the best games of the year that involved a District 9 team.  Just two weeks before, the Beavers lost 49-0 to that same Hollidaysburg team.  This time it appears that DuBois could have and should have won the playoff game.  Hollidaysburg got off to a good start and went up 7-0 early, but DuBois tied it before the 1st quarter ended.  The Golden Tigers regained the lead in the second, but the Beavers went ahead 17-13 by halftime.  The only score in the third was a Hollidaysburg TD.  DuBois climbed back in front 24-19 with an early 4th quarter touchdown.  Late in the game, a Beaver 1st down was nullified when the 4th down QB sneak was flagged for aiding the runner.  DuBois then had to punt and the Golden Tigers drove and scored to go ahead 25-24 with 1:24 left.  Undeterred, DuBois drove to the Hollidaysburg 27 and spiked the ball to set up the winning field goal attempt, but they were again flagged.  This time for not being set.  They then had to try for a Hail Mary that fell incomplete on the last play of the game.

This Week’s Playoff Games:

  • Penn Cambria (10-2) @ Brockway (7-4) – 7:00 pm
  • Farrell (10-2) @ Karns City (9-2) – 7:00 pm
  • Redbank Valley (8-4) @ Port Allegany (11-0) (@ Kane HS) – 7:00 pm
  • Punxsutawney (10-1) @ Oil City (9-1) – 7:00 pm
