Here are the top performers of the week, along with a couple other tidbits:
Quarterbacks:
- Trey Wingard, DuBois, started the season by tossing 6 touchdowns against a good General McLane team. He accumulated 387 yards passing and 418 all-purpose yards. Trey also scored on a run to make 7 TDs he accounted for.
- Dom Corcetti, Keystone, 332 all-purpose yards, 277 of that running the ball. Dom accounted for 5 touchdowns, 4 running and 1 passing.
- Cole Johnston, Karns City, threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for another.
- Braylon Wagner, Redbank Valley, pitched the pigskin for 288 yards and 4 scores to begin his year.
- Brennan Fillhart, Port Allegany, threw 3 TD passes.
Running Backs:
- Aiden Bliss, Port Allegany, picked up where he left off last year, rushing for 181 yards and scoring 2 TDs on the ground and 2 receiving. He accounted for a 5th when he threw a touchdown pass.
- Max Gallagher, Union/AC Valley, ran for 186 yards and 3 touchdowns.
- Evan Anderson, Kane, traversed the field for 146 yards and a trio of scores.
- Hunter Scherer, Karns City, accounted for 4 touchdowns, 2 rushing and 2 receiving.
- Nate Steger, Ridgway, rushed for 147 yards.
- Brendin Sankey, Moniteau, gained 146 yards on the ground.
Receivers:
- Jaxson Hanzely, DuBois, 8 receptions, 214 yards, 3 receiving TDs.
- Jaxon Huffman, Redbank Valley, had 142 receiving yards.
Defense and Special Teams:
- Logan Kohler, Bradford, returned a kickoff 97 yards for a TD.
- Isaac Postlewaite, Port Allegany, scored two defense and special team touchdowns. Isaac recovered a fumble in the end zone and also returned a blocked punt for a score.
- Eli Nellis, Keystone, had an 83-yard kickoff return score.
- Malakai Zucal, Cameron County, scored on a 27-yard pick six. That was his third touchdown of the game as he had a rushing score and a receiving TD.
- Jaxson Hanzely, DuBois, 93-yard kickoff return on last play of 1st half in game with General McLane. That makes 4 TDs for Jaxson as he had the 3 receiving too.
- Bryce Mount, Keystone, kicked 7 PATs.
- Zach Hungiville, Smethport, racked up 15 tackles in his game.
- Logan Skibinski, Union/AC Valley, returned a blocked punt 24 yards for a score. That was his 3rd touchdown of the night to go with his 2 rushing scores.
- Cooper Broad, Clearfield, returned an interception 67 yards to the house.
- Maddox Barnes, DuBois, was a perfect 8 for 8 in the PAT department.
- Owen Roken, Punxsuyawney, set a new school record by kicking a 44-yard field goal. Owen is only a sophomore.
Game of the Week: We will go with two. First of all, the DuBois-General McLane contest was a fan pleaser as they combined for almost 1,000 yards of offense and 91 points. McLane tied the game late in the 1st half only to see Jaxson Hanzely return the kickoff for a touchdown with no time left. McLane tied the score in the third at 35, but DuBois tallied the last 21 points of the game.
The other game we should mention was the Clearfield-Bellwood tilt. Even though Bellwood-Antis probably had the better of the play overall, it looked as though overtime was on the horizon until the Blue Devils scored with 31 seconds remaining to dash the Clearfield Bison’s hopes and win 28-21.
Other Notes: Offense: DuBois, as a team, had over 500 yards of total offense. Defense: Karns City held St. Marys to a measly 39 total yards.
Moniteau won their first game in nearly two years by shutting out Coudersport!
Upcoming Games of the Week:
- Redbank Valley 1-0 @ Union-AC Valley 1-0 (Thursday)
- Central Clarion 0-1 @ Keystone 1-0 (Friday)
- Punxsutawney 1-0 @ DuBois 1-0 (Friday)
