Game of the Week: We will go with two again this week. Both of which Protime attended. Thursday night featured Redbank Valley’s high scoring offense against a Union/AC Valley team that may be a force to contend with this year, especially with their line, two quality running backs, and a freshman QB who has been very good thus far. The Falcon Knights of UACV led the whole game, jumping out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, and holding 20-8 and 26-16 leads also. But Redbank cut the score to 26-22 with 3:22 left. And they got the ball back with a little over a minute to play. Even though Union/AC Valley had the better of the play most of the game, here were the Bulldogs with a chance to win. But the defense of the Falcon Knights came up big to preserve the 26-22 margin and the victory.
For the second week in a row the DuBois Beavers were involved in a high scoring affair. This week Punxsutawney came to town and the Chucks caused 6 turnovers and pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 49-35. The two teams combined for almost 950 yards of offense with the majority of that in the first half. DuBois tied the score in the third at 35, but Punxsy scored twice in the final quarter and their defense played really well in the second half to limit the Beavers passing. DuBois never trailed in the first half and led 28-27 at the intermission, but to Punxsy’s credit each time the Beavers scored the Chucks answered. That’s a sign of a pretty good football team.
Other Notes: Offense: It’s only been two weeks but the top 3 highest scoring offenses are: 1) Port Allegany – 68 points a game, 2) Karns City – 61.5 points per contest, 3) Cameron County – averages 54 points. Defense: 1) Kane – allows 4 points per game, 2) Cameron County – gives up 6.5 a contest, 3) Karns City – allows 10 points a game.
Upcoming Games of the Week:
- Union/AC Valley 2-0 @ Keystone 1-1 (Thursday)
- Port Allegany 2-0 @ Central Clarion 1-1 (Friday)
- DuBois 1-1 @ Karns City 2-0 (Friday)
