Other Tidbits:

  • Port Allegany’s all-state running back, Aiden Bliss, moved into 2nd place in D-9 career rushing history when he once again ran for over 100 yards, giving him over 1,000 for the year so far.  Bliss now has 6,087 yards and trails only Nick Stewart of Curwensville who has 7,324 yards.

Game of the Week: There were 3 dandies this week.  The first one found 1A Port Allegany topping 3A St. Marys 32-26.  The win extended Port’s regular season win streak to 18 games.  The Gators took an 8-0 lead after the first quarter.  The second stanza was wild with 36 points scored.  Port clung to a 24-20 lead at the intermission.  The Dutch scored the only TD in the third quarter to lead the #4 ranked Gators 26-24 heading to the last quarter.  The winning score came with under minutes to play, but Port had to survive on defense.  And they did, overcoming a pass interference penalty on an intercepted pass and a St. Marys WR dropping a pass deep in port Allegany territory.

The second game of the week was the Kane-Smethport contest which ended with Kane winning to up their record to 5-1.  The first half was a see-saw battle that ended with Smethport leading 22-14, a lead that held until the 4th quarter.  Kane scored early in the last stanza to trim the Hubber lead to 22-20.  Smethport subsequently had the ball in the red zone but the Wolves’ defense came up big.  Later, the Hubbers had a 4th and two at the Kane 41, but elected to go for the 1st down instead of punting.  Kane held and drove down the field scoring the winning TD with less than a minute to go.

The final GOTW saw Brockway win a one pointer 19-18 over Keystone in a real nail-biter at the end.  Brockway appeared to be comfortably ahead 19-6 through even the first 4 minutes of the fourth quarter.  Then Keystone kicked it up a notch scoring twice in the last seven minutes.  The second TD was scored with 26 seconds remaining.  The Panthers chose to go for the two-point conversion and the win, but the Brockway Rover ‘D’ stopped them inches short of the goal line to preserve the victory.

Upcoming Games of the Week:

  • Kane 5-1 @ Union/AC Valley 6-0
  • Karns City 4-2 @ Westinghouse 6-0
