Coach says, “Luke has been a staple on our offensive line. Rather I should say the Milito’s have been a staple. Luke’s older brother Logan was a fantastic center for State High and Luke’s Father is the Offensive Coordinator of our 9th grade team at State High. Luke understands our offense to an extremely high level and truly is a coach on the field. We have so much faith and trust in Luke. He is a great leader, great player, great student and great person. He makes everyone around him better.”
Let’s get to know Luke:
Why do you play football?
I play football because I grew up around it, with Penn State right in town and my Dad and my older brother having a love for the sport I also found a passion for it at a young age.
Who is your favorite sports star and WHY?
My favorite sports star is Saquon Barkley because he always played with a bunch of energy. Also, even when the spotlight was on him he stayed a great teammate and was always wanting to play for his team not just himself.
What is your favorite play of your career?
My favorite play was against Gateway last year we were at the goal line trying to push it in and the snap got fumbled but one of our tight ends Darryl [Lunon] picked up the ball and ran to the outside and scored. It almost looked like we had planned it out that way but it was just pure instinct from Darryl.
What was last year’s season like for you?
Last season was very successful for me really because the team was so successful. I measure my accomplishments with how well the team is doing because at the end of the day that is the most important. Last year we had a really good team so I think that for me it was a really good season.
What are your goals for this coming season?
It’s definitely match the success from last season but then even go one step further and win a state championship. As a team that’s always our main focus and so for me that’s is definitely my main goal. We got close last year now we want to go all the way.
Who is the best player you ever lined up against?
It was at practice but I would definitely have to say Quincy Smith. The speed and technique he had off the edge was something I don’t think I have seen anyone else that can fire off as quick as he does.
Describe what the perfect teammate is:
The perfect teammate would be someone whose main focus is just about team success. Not even focused on the scoreboard or the team’s record, just someone who consistently pushes others to be their best and also willing to push themselves even harder than they push their teammates.
Tell everyone why you think football is good for a community
I believe football is good for the community because it is something the whole community can rally around and support. It gives everyone at least one thing in common that they can all love and care about. It also creates a whole group of around 70 high schoolers being taught valuable lessons that they will one day be able to translate into their life with their family, work, and their community.
Name one thing that you’d love to do in football that you haven’t done yet
One thing I want to accomplish in football that I haven’t yet is to win a state championship. Growing I saw a lot of great teams come before me at State College but come up just short, I want to be on the team that goes all the way.
Who is your mentor, the person you want to be like? Why?
My mentor is definitely my older brother, Logan. We use to play football together in the basement growing up and that’s what really made me fall in love with the sport. Really ever since then I wanted to do what he was doing. I have long hair because he has long hair, I wear the same number he does and it’s because he always coaches me up and me to be the best player and person I can be.
What are your favorite and least favorite practice drills?
My favorite practice drill is definitely “Lions Den,” which is 1 LB and 2 DL vs 2 OL and 1 RB. I’m not really sure what my least favorite drill is, mostly if I’m playing football I’m having fun.
When you aren’t playing, practicing or training for sports, what is your go to activity and why?
My go to activity is probably gaming because it’s an easy way to relax and get to talk with friends.
(Luke can also be found instigating fun arguments in his fantasy football group chat)
What is your favorite meal?
My favorite meal is my Mom’s breaded chicken bites with garlic spaghetti.
What is special about your football program?
Definitely the tradition and the legacy of all the people who came before you. We have a very storied program that means a lot to so many people and is so far reaching within the community. The importance of carrying on the legacy when you have “STATE” on your chest is something that I don’t believe everywhere has.
