
27 Unanswered Points Help Trinity Beat Thomas Jefferson

At the half, the Trinity Hillers trailed the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars, 22-7. From that point on, Thomas Jefferson only gained two first downs. Trinity went on to score 27 unanswered points in the second half to earn a 33-22 win and improve to 2-0 in conference play.
Sophomore quarterback Harrison Kolling threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to senior tight end Dom Volomino to help Thomas Jefferson score first, but Trinity blocked the extra point. Junior running back Owen Gardner gave the Hillers the lead soon after on a touchdown run of 58 yards. Trinity carried a 7-6 lead into the second quarter.
Thomas Jefferson scored the next 16 points, starting with a 4-yard touchdown run from junior running back Tyler Eber. On the next drive for Trinity, the ball was snapped over quarterback Jonah Williamson’s head, resulting in a Thomas Jefferson safety.
On the first play after the safety, Eber took the handoff and broke free for a 65-yard touchdown. Thomas Jefferson attempted a 34-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, but it was no good.
The tide shifted in Trinity’s favor early in the second half thanks to junior Chase Kostelnik. On the opening drive of the second half, Kostelnik intercepted a pass to give Trinity the ball back. Williamson then hit Kostelnik for a 21-yard touchdown, making it 22-13 as the extra point was no good.
On the second play of the fourth quarter, Trinity had a fourth-and-2 in the red zone. Electing to go for it, the Hillers turned the ball over on downs, still trailing 22-13.
Trinity forced a Thomas Jefferson punt and was able to pull within two points as Williamson hit junior wide receiver Braden Berdar, who made a sliding grab for his fourth touchdown in the last two games.
Junior defensive back Tyler Welsh then intercepted a Thomas Jefferson throw to give Trinity the ball back at the opposing 30-yard line with just over seven minutes remaining.
Williamson capped off the drive, running it in from a yard out to give Trinity the lead, 26-22 after an unsuccessful 2-point conversion.
Trinity forced a Thomas Jefferson punt, but had to punt themselves. Williamson dropped back from his quarterback position and pooched a punt down to the Thomas Jefferson 1-yard line.
On the first play of the Thomas Jefferson drive, Owen Gardner intercepted a designed screen pass in the end zone for a pick six, giving Trinity a 33-22 lead.

Junior linebacker Anthony Giorgi, who pressured the quarterback on the pick six, then had a strip sack to give Trinity the ball back. After a few running plays, it was victory formation.
The now 2-0 in conference play Trinity Hillers host the also 2-0 in conference play Chartiers Valley Colts next Friday. Thomas Jefferson hosts Ringgold.
