The Penn Cambria Panthers were one of the best 3A teams in the state last year. But two of their best players graduated and their head coach took the job at Neshaminy. In spite of that, Penn Cambria is still a pretty good football team. Jason Grassi is now the head coach. His Panthers have scored 474 points while surrendering 156. Brady Jones is the QB and has thrown for 1,863 yards and 22 touchdowns. His top receiver is Blake Lilly who has hauled down 56 passes for 894 yards and 10 TDs. Lilly has accounted for 1,996 all-purpose yards including 762 on punt and kickoff returns with 3 TDs. WR Grant Gides comes into this game with 28 snags for 487 yards and a half dozen scores. Corbin Vinglish heads up the running attack for Penn Cambria as he has sprinted for 1,436 yards and 19 TDs. Jones has contributed 9 rushing TDs in scrambling for 528 yards. Vinglish has 132 tackles for the Panther defense and Lilly has 5 interceptions. Penn Cambria has forced 29 turnovers and 17 of them are INTs. The Panthers also have 31 sacks of the quarterback this year.
The Sharon Tigers have a great football program and seem to be in the running for a district title every year. They are coached by Jason McElhaney. QB Ethan Engelmore leads the Tiger offense. He’s passed the football for 1,162 yards and 12 touchdowns. Kare’mez Norris is his go-to guy. Norris has 31 grabs for 644 yards and 8 scores. WR Bishop Root has caught 27 throws and scored 4 TDs. The ground game is led by Terrian White who has galloped for 1,558 yards and scored 23 times. Place kicker, Yousef Kanan, has been consistent, nailing 51 of 52 extra point tries. Aanavyon Brown leads the Tigers in tackles and the Sharon defense has recorded 28 QB sacks. They have 15 interceptions with Cyliem Smith leading with 5 picks. Sharon has outscored the opposition 433 to 196 to date.
MaxPreps has Penn Cambria as the slight favorite, but this old prognosticator says the game looks to be a toss-up. Key factors to victory should be whose defense can create some turnovers and which team gains momentum at significant times during the contest.
