What to Know About The Game
Up until last season, Hollidaysburg hadn’t won double digit games in a season since the fall of 2008. That was until their senior quarterback Maddox Bainey led them to an incredible 13-1 record that took the Golden Tigers all the way to the state quarterfinals where they fell to the Roman Catholic Cahillites, who was eventually the runner up to the state title. Bainey was one of the most productive quarterbacks in the state last year as well, finishing top 20 in passing yards with 2,439 along with 28 touchdowns through the air. Now with Bainey graduated, the Golden Tigers handed the reins to senior Cole Delattre and so far they haven’t missed a beat, starting 4-0 for the second year in a row. The offense has been powered through the strong rushing abilities of Delattre, as well as junior running back Carter Muth, who both have tallied nearly 400 yards on the ground this year. They’ll be coming into this game to face a Mifflinburg team that is very different from the one they faced on the road last season. The biggest storyline for the Wildcats this year is their turnaround, after beginning the year 0-5 last season, they’ve completely flipped the script, starting 4-0 for the first time since 2022. They’ve had an extremely balanced but still high powered offense this year, with senior quarterback Chad Martin leading the way having the third most passing yards in District 4.
Final Thoughts
As mentioned before, this is a very different Wildcats team this year and I have no doubt in my mind that this game will be a slugfest between two of the state’s best. Last year this game was only decided by a mere 8 points, and for this year? I have this game being decided by even less than that. Mifflinburg really impressed me last week, and ultimately I have them prevailing in this game by 3 points, however this game could very easily go the other way, as these are two extremely talented squads.
My Prediction
Mifflinburg – 38
Hollidaysburg – 35
