Nail-biting from start to finish, Aliquippa stunned No. 2 seed Trinity in dramatic fashion, scoring with just 20 seconds remaining to seal a 21-14 upset and advance in the WPIAL 4A playoffs. The Quips struck first behind a 12-yard touchdown run from Joseph Work before Trinity’s Jonah Williamson answered with a seven-yard keeper to tie things up. Defense ruled the rest of the half, with both teams trading turnovers and Trinity making a goal-line stand as time expired to keep the score knotted at 7-7 heading into the break.
Trinity appeared to seize control in the third, as Williamson connected with Owen Samogala for a 23-yard score to make it 14-7. But late-game chaos turned the tide. Two false start penalties pushed Trinity out of field-goal range, and a turnover on downs set the stage for Aliquippa’s comeback. Moments later, Akiva Woods ripped off a 70-yard touchdown run to tie it with six minutes left. After a muffed punt gave the Quips prime field position, quarterback Marques Council escaped pressure and found Josh Lay for a 40-yard strike that silenced the home crowd. Trinity’s last-ditch Hail Marys fell short, sealing Aliquippa’s dramatic 21-14 win and a trip to the second round.
