Upper Merion hosted the Golden Panthers of Pope John Paul II Friday Night, in which they lost to, 42-20. The Vikings had a transfer move onto Pope John Paul in the summer of 2024, and another in 2025. The two being Wide Receiver/Cornerback, Zahaid Edwards Boone and Wide Receiver/Cornerback, Eric Green. Although being departed from the team, they are not forgotten in the locker room.

‘I want nothing but the best for anybody I have ever coached. I love all of my boys like sons. To see them on another team, it hurts because you look at them and you know they should have been with you. I wish them much success, but you know, bittersweet” said Upper Merion head coach Marquis Weeks postgame, talking about having the pleasure of coaching both guys.

Upper Merion kicked off this game with the ball. They went three and out, and the Golden Panthers wasted no time. On their first play from scrimmage, Brandon DeAngelo started his phenomenal play early, putting his squad on the board first, 7-0.

The first quarter scoring would not stop there. After two quick changes of possession, Pope was quickly on top by three scores. Kassidy Jackson and Dylan Skarbek cashed in, splitting a pair of rushing touchdowns. DeAngelo secured an interception to close out the first.

Skarbek picked up right where he left off in the first quarter, taking one of Pope John Paul’s first few plays of the second all the way for his second rushing touchdown of the half. After Panthers quarterback TJ Dozier added another touchdown, with his legs, Upper Merion put up their first points. Kylee Hill caught an 11-yard diving touchdown in the front right corner of the endzone. Before the end of the first half, Pope ran in another quick touchdown. 42-6 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Upper Merion Vikings came out looking motivated and ready to rock. They would ultimately cut into the big lead by racking up two touchdowns. Kylee Hill grabbed his second and final score, going 83-yards. Nasir Harper received the second score in the quarter, and wrapped up the scoring for this one.

“That was great for our guys, man. We just wanted to keep hammering and get a touchdown in the game. We were able to throw it to Kylee Hill, caught the ball, made a great catch and a great run as well. It lit a fire under our offense and our team, so we really needed that to uplift us in this game” said Upper Merion head coach Marquis Weeks postgame, when asked about how the offense opened up and executed in that third quarter.

The clock slowly ran out. That was it, the last time Upper Merion’s seniors would play on their home turf. The Vikings still have one more game left, the PAC Crossover game. The opponent is still yet to be decided.
