Abraham Lincoln HS in 2023 broke through quite a few barriers during the football season. They started the season with 4 very tough non-league games which all resulted in close narrow defeats to Downington East, Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, Roman Catholic & Imhotep Charter. Junior CB Ziiyon Bredell started the season with a great performance against Downington East with a pick 6. That game propelled him to a great season in which he earned all public league honors, all-city honors and even an all-state honor. Lincoln would go on to win their first Public League Championship since 1979 and Ziyyon would gain attention from college coaches. Amongst his suitors were scholarship offers from Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Kentucky, Boston College, West Virginia, James Madison, Old Dominion, Akron, UConn, Howard & Monmouth. He would narrow his choices down to a final 3 of Syracuse, Pittsburgh & Maryland a week before giving Coach Fran Brown his pledge. Ultimately the decision would come down to University of Pittsburgh and Syracuse.

Ziiyon stated that his recruitment was a little difficult navigating as he was new to the scene and had to quickly decipher who was being honest, upfront against those telling him lies. One constant thing he kept in his mind was the coaches who were upfront and sincere in helping him develop. “I relied on my family to help me sort through the sincere and legit offers”. A Frankford resident Ziiyon stated “Pittsburgh was a great school but Syracuse I loved more, not only is the Head Coach Fran Brown from the New Jersey area right across the bridge, but we relate a lot not only through our Christianity faith, but also being a football player, he’s developed NFL talent at Georgia while being from the east”. Going into his senior season he has one goal, a state championship. He stated, “Throw whoever in front of us, we are all dawgs, we fear no competition or nobody”. He mentioned how great the Lincoln staff is with not only developing the players but relating to each player. “Our coaches understand you can’t coach every player the same as not all players react the same way too tough coaching. Coach Duke, Coach Dre and the staff do a great job of identifying what works for each player based off their personality. On and off the field they want the best for each player on the team. It’s a big family here at Lincoln, we love one another and will ride for each other every single time”. Lastly, he wanted to give a big shoutout to his Lincoln Coaches including his older cousin Coach Dre who is on the staff, his brothers who helped him from little league to the high school league, his parents, grandparents, grandma Dee and all those who have supported him throughout the years.
