After winning multiple state titles and building a juggernaut at Aliquippa, head coach Mike Warfield is taking a break. “ I retired from the state police after 25 years, went straight to the US attorneys office for 3 years. I work for a pharmaceutical company now and with football I just need to empty my cup a bit and take a break” Warfield told PFN. “My health is good, my family is good. I’m good. I don’t want this to be a negative thing”.
Adsociate head coach Vashawn Patrick will take over as the interim head coach. “I have no concerns about that” said Warfield who says he will still be around working with the Quips quarterback club and smaller issues with coaching to help ease Patrick into the position.
Warfield says the recent court battles have nothing to do with his taking a break. “I been in courts all my life man, that definitely isn’t the reason. “ To be honest, I could be selfish and stay on and keep patting my record, but there’s a lot of good young coaches who deserve it. Have a chance out there to do the things I got to do. They could take us way into the future”.
The court case with the PIAA to determine what classification the Quips will compete at continues tomorrow in Harrisburg.
