Aliquippa emerged from the mist of battle victorious on Friday night, defeating Oil City, 28-6, to advance to the PIAA 4A semifinals. Quips Akiva Woods opened the scoring with a 5 yard strike before Marques Council found Josh Lay from 15 out to increase the Quips lead by 14. Oil city looked to make it a game heading into halftime, as they drove the ball all the way down to Aliquippa’s six yard line. Cole Findlay looked to find his receiver in the end zone but instead found Aliquippa’s own Qa’Lil Goode, who took it 100 yards to the house for a pick six. That would be the dagger in the game.
The second half opened with Aliquippa running back, Joesph Work, taking the ball 47 yards on the very first play to increase the Quips lead to 28-0. They would stay there for the rest of the game, riding a dominant defensive performance to the end. Holding standout back Steven Heise to 53 yards on 18 carries, and QB Cole Findlay to 5/20 for 64 yards and a costly pick six.
Aliquippa (10-3) will advance to play Twin Valley (13-0) in the 4A State Semifinal, on either Nov. 28 or 29, with the location yet to be announced.
