The Avonworth Antelopes advance to the 3A championship at Acrisure Stadium facing off against the Belle Vernon Leopards for the second year in a row after defeating the Elizabeth-Forward Warriors 21-10 at Gateway High School.

Facing some brutal weather in the late afternoon into the early evening with constant rain, this game was poised for a defensive battle with little offense.

Avonworth and Elizabeth-Forward both had multiple three and outs and punts leading to a 0-0 score after the first quarter.

Going into the second quarter the rain continued up until the latter half, giving the Antelopes the first score of the night with a rushing touchdown from running back Brandon Vitai-Biagiarelli putting them up 7-0 with 10 minutes left in the first half of play.

Just before halftime, Elizabeth-Forward was able to get a field goal before heading into the locker room making the game score 7-3 with Avonworth leading.

After halftime speeches and pep talks, Avonworth and Elizabeth-Forward came out with energy and excitment to see who would seal their ticket to Acrisure Stadium.

Third quarter was filled with lots of defensive plays leading to offensive third and outs, but the Warriors were able to get their first and only touchdown of the night from WR Isiah Turner with a toe tapping corner drag.

At the 10 minute mark in the fourth quarter, Avonworth brought it in for another touchdown giving them a 14-10 lead over the Warriors. Giving some hope to the Warriors, they called one play just for it to be intercepted by the Antelope defense.

Capitalizing over the interception, the Avonworth offense brought the ball to the endzone for another touchdown bring the score to 21-10.

Warriors hoping to get a redemption shot were quickly denied as the Avonworth defense struck again with a forced fumble to end the game.

Elizabeth-Forward Warriors ended their season 10-2 as the number four seed for the 3A division. They hope to strike back next season and getting to the championship game
