Bishop McCort vs Bishop Guilfoyle LHAC Championship Photo Gallery/Recap

On Friday night, Bishop McCort (#5 AA) defeated Bishop Guilfoyle (#3 A) 46-18 to win the Laurel Highlands Athletic Confrence Championship played at Saint Francis University.

Bishop McCort entered the game with a 9-0 undefeated record and Bishop Guilfoyle entered the contest at 8-1 with their only loss to Richland in week 2 of the season.

McCort’s offense was led by Junior quarterback Bentley Bainey’s 4 touchdowns on the night. He also helped the defense by breaking up multiple passes and grabbing an interception. He completed 11 of 14 passes for 117 yards. Senior Jon Delia continued his dominance and carried the ball 21 times for 132 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. Junior Kaleen Taylor added in an additional 4 receptions, 73 yards and a touchdown. Senior Josh Spontak added an 8 yard reception in the second quarter. Lastly, senior Nick Dressick hauled in two touchdowns from 2 and 8 yards, respectively and added in many key blocks.  Avery Conner also added his powerful foot to the Bishop McCort offense with his Point After Touchdowns (PATs).

Bishop McCort’s defense was led by seniors Rocco Fetzko, Luke Stevens, Garrett Farabaugh, Angelo Gallucci and Nick Dressick which held Bishop Guilfoyle to 80 rushing yards on 31 attempts.  The defense also forced three fumbles including two interceptions and a fumbled punt return.  Due to the strong defense McCort held Guilfoyle to 6 points in the first half. 

Combined the Guilfoyle offense completed 9 out of 20 passes for 187 yards and one interception.  Bishop Guilfoyle’s offense was led by Sophomore Justin Wheeler.   Jacob Kissell led the team with both a passing and a rushing touchdown.  The last touchdown of the game was a rushing touchdown by Guilfoyle’s Freshman Landon Shellenberger.

Bishop McCort’s Coach Tom Smith etched his first win against Bishop Guilfoyle’s Justin Wheeler Friday night in a game that will be remembered for many years to come.

Bishop McCort looks to continue their unbeaten streak next week against Bald Eagle Area in the first round of the District VI playoffs on October 31st at 7:00 PM at Point Stadium.  Bishop Guilfoyle will look to avenge their loss to the Crushers against Purchase Line also on October 31st at 7:00 PM at Mansion Park.
