The Blue Mountain Eagles defeated the Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes in their annual, “Backyard Brawl” match up, 37-14. Tyler Miller had two touchdowns for the Eagles. Niko Carestia and Augustus Warke had the Hurricanes’ two scores.

Schuylkill Haven started the game off by recovering their own onside kick, giving them early possession. The Hurricanes were able to work towards the end zone with Hertz catching a long pass from Warke and a costly pass interference call on Blue Mountain, but they ended their drive with a missed field goal attempt. Quarterback Tyler Miller opened up the action for the Eagles with a long run down the left sideline to the 20 yard line. Miller then found Payton Fasnacht in the endzone. Before heading into the second quarter, Wyatt Barnes snagged the first of three interceptions for the Eagles.

The second quarter scoring started with kicker Aiden Grace lacing a field goal, putting the Eagles up, 10-0. The Hurricanes had a spark with a deep catch from Carestia and a long run from Warke, but their drive attempt was ended by Hunter Blankenhorn. The score remained 10-0 throughout the third quarter as well, both teams trading possessions on downs.

The fourth quarter showed a few sparks from the Hurricanes, but was ultimately controlled by the Eagles. Miller snuck into the endzone for another Blue Mountain touchdown before the Hurricanes showed some potential. Travis Richie blocked the extra point attempt after Miller’s score, and Carestia was ready to make a push. He ran for a 58-yard touchdown and completed the two-point conversion, giving his team some much needed energy. Shortly after, Blue Mountain was back on their scoring grind, Miller finding Bradley Renninger for a 45-yard touchdown. Fasnacht finished off the drive with a successful two-point conversion. Schuylkill Haven had one last score, Warke sneaking in from 2 yards out, but it wouldn’t be enough. The remaining minutes were dominated by Blue Mountain. Fasnacht broke out for a long run, allowing Miller to run in from 10 yards out for the score. Austyn Fields got into the backfield for a sack and Will Jacobson sealed the game with an interception, resulting in his own 62-yard touchdown.

With Blue Mountain winning the Backyard Brawl 37-14, the Eagles and Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes finish their regular seasons 8-2.
