Bonner-Prendie the defending PIAA 4 champions used a strong surge offensively and defensively in the second half to surge past Archbishop Wood 35-7 in a non-league game Friday night. Both programs are in the 4A classification so there’s a chance this game could be played in over a month with a trip to the state playoffs on the line. Early on Wood actually found success in the air with Jr. QB Jack Drakeley finding open downfield in Sr WR Trey Smith (Navy commit). Jr RB David Melcher  would score the games first points on a hard short touchdown run to give Wood the lead with just 4 minutes left in the opening quarter. Bonner Sr RB Saalem Frink would respond jolting 42 yards to the end zone to tie things with 2 mins remaining in the quarter and the score would remain tied until late in the second quarter when Bonner would get another Saalem touchdown run to extend the lead at the half to 14-7. The Friars defense led by Sr CJ Amobi (UMASS) who racked up 3.5 sacks and 5 quarterback hurries many coming after the half as they expanded the lead to 28-7 heading into the final quarter. Saalem would finish off the game with his 5th score of the game to provide the final margin of victory early in the 4th quarter with Wood falling 35-7. On the season Saalem is over 300 yards rushing and has scored a whopping 9 touchdowns for Bonner. Another highlight came in the form of a nasty one handed grab along the sideline from QB Noel Campbell to Sr WR/DB Dylan Abrams (Temple).

For Wood despite being under pressure QB Jake Drakeley showed great composure and a strong arm as he often targeted Trey early in the game drawing a couple of penalties on the Friars secondary. Up next for Wood is an trip to Father Judge next Friday evening while Bonner rests up on a bye week.
