Middletown Blue Raiders outlast the Eastern York Knights, 21-19.

This one was a windy night inside Golden Knight Stadium. With no better way to represent Playoff Football and a true testament to who wanted it more. Both teams showcased stifling defense nearly through the entirety of the 1st quarter. The Blue Raiders of Middletown would blink first with 47 seconds remaining in the 1st quarter after a rushing score from Eastern York Senior Quarterback Quinn Bramble to make it 6-0 after a missed PAT. Middletown did everything but flinch as they responded just a few plays later, courtesy of Senior Luis Roman’s long run to take the lead, 7-6 to start the 2nd quarter.

A few quick drives later, Freshman Brady Cook responded for Eastern York with a sideline grab to take the lead, 12-7 after a failed 2pt conversion with 8 minutes remaining in the half. Already just two minutes later, Middletown reclaimed the lead after a QB run from Sophomore Harrison Ortiz for a 14-12 lead.

Briefly after, momentum carried on for the Blue Raiders on both ends. After forcing the Golden Knights into a turnover on downs on 4th & 9, they capitalized with points off this crucial turnover. With under a minute remaining in the 2nd quarter, Harrison Ortiz finds his Senior wideout, Nickayus Zenon on a corner route for a 21-12 lead. The Golden Knights executed a one minute offense perfectly, getting into field goal range, but missing just left to keep this one at a 9 point game.

Out of intermission, Eastern York continued to struggle to weather the storm after fumbling on the opening 2nd half possession. Speaking of weathering the storm, the Golden Knight defense rose to the occasion with Brady Cook intercepting Harrison Ortiz and keeping his team fighting. Eastern York certainly kept on fighting as later in the 3rd quarter, Quinn Bramble for his 3rd touchdown, connected with his Sophomore receiver Landon Englehart in stride to cut the deficit to 2.

Now a 21-19 ballgame with an entire 4th quarter of the ball left, both teams scratching and clawing up to this point to avoid a first-round exit. The 4th quarter resulted in nothing more than grit and aggression on the defensive side of the ball, until it didn’t. A similar situation presented itself for the Blue Raiders prior to halftime, but now for the Golden Knights, their season lies here. Eastern York was heavily driven through Quinn Bramble despite crucial drops this entire drive.

The arm of Quinn Bramble was forced to be the deciding factor, resulting in an interception with 39 seconds remaining. Having all 3 opportunities at stoppage, the timeout game was their last gasp. Eastern York eventually ran out of breath after Middletown halfback Gavin Paul broke a run loose to seal the deal and advance the Blue Raiders closer to state glory.
