B — 0 – 6 – 6 – 8 — 20
W — 0 – 7 – 0 – 0 — 7

After a scoreless first quarter of back-and-forth possessions, Boys Latin Charter got on the board first with an 11 yard TD pass to the left front corner of the endzone. The leaping catch was made by Nehemiah Nelson. The Aaron McFadden PAT kick was blocked. West Philadelphia answered with a 30 yard TD run by QB Carlos Rivera down the right side. The PAT by Juan Calixte gave the Speedboys their first lead of the game, 7-6. Which they’d hold until the halftime break.

In the second half, Faheem Carter would get separation and catch a 40 yard TD pass for Boys Latin Charter to retake the lead. The run conversion was short, and the Warriors held the slim, 12-7 lead going into the fourth quarter. West Philadelphia would connect on a long pass and run to Zaire Browns down to the 5 yard line. However, a sequence of negative plays would set up a 4th and goal from the 15 which would be fruitless.

With a defensive stop in the shadow of their own goal posts, West Philadelphia would start a drive from their own 15, and a tipped pass would be their undoing. The surge of the defensive line disrupted the play, tipping the ball to himself,  Amere Brown would return it about 12 yards for the commanding score. Jibril Jones would run in the conversion to go up 20-7 with just 5:31 left.

The Speedboys would struggle under a two score deficit and their final offensive plays wouldn’t result in narrowing the deficit. Boys Latin Charter would win their second straight to start the abbreviated spring season, 20-7. West Philadelphia would fall to 1-1.

Boys Latin Charter plays Olney Charter next Thursday, while the West Philadelphia Speedboys host Overbrook on Wednesday morning at 10:30am. A disrupted scheduled due to Easter Weekend.
