PIAA Class 3A Title game preview: Belle Vernon

BELLE VERNON

District 7 Belle Vernon Leopards are one of the most complete teams in the PIAA. They returned 21 starters from last years Wpial and PIAA champion squads and they’re debatably better than they were a year ago. They’re  led by a man with a list of accolades a mile long that being, returning Wpial Player of the year and MaxPreps all American the Senior two- way talent Quinton Martin.  Fresh off of bringing a state title back to BVA, and committed to National power Penn State University, Martin has run wild.

KEY PLAYERS:

The WPIAL champs would not have gotten to this point had it not been for an exceptional run game and excellent first quarter play. On the season they’ve run for 3,111 yards and 42 Touchdowns as a squad, the lions share of which has been taken by Penn State commit Quinton Martin. 10.2 yards a carry and 987 yards, on just 98 carries and 13 scores to boot. Senior Kole Dopplehauer is also a major player in the run game, as he totaled 718 yards on just 58 Carrie’s and 11 scores. 

The leopard’s are really good on the defensive side too, as they’ve has 30 takeaways and 32 sacks. Leading the way on the defensive side is middle linebacker Tanner Moody. 

The Leopards last loss, came all the way back on Sept the 22, to Thomas Jefferson but in the 9 weeks following, they’ve scored 339 points en route to a average margin of victory at 37.6ppg. Most recently, dispatching Hickory 42-16  at North Allegheny back on December the first. The Leopards don’t lose much through the air, as QB Braden Laux is 93-141 with 17 scoring tosses. His leading in receiver is once again Quinton Martin who has 39 grabs with 603 yards and 10 touchdowns.
